Well Wishes For Matthew

This morning when I went to feed the guinea pigs, 3 out of four were at the bars chewing them for food. Matthew hadn't come out. A few minutes later, he eventually came out and tried to eat a piece of pepper and spat it back up, munched, everywhere.

I immediately noticed his eyes were all sunken and wet and he was puffed up.

I took him out and bought him downstairs. He was retching nonstop and spitting everywhere.

I rushed him to the emergency out of hours vets and he has oral thrush.

He's at home with me at the moment and I'm feeding him critical care and I have him sectioned away in a little box with a heat pad and a fleece over him. The vet gave him an injection of pain relief and he's a very drowzy out of it piggie at the moment.

For now I am monitering him and force feeding him. Tomorrow I plan to rush him to the vet if he's still not any better.

Please have him in your thoughts. I'm extremely worried about him as he's lost a lot of weight rapidly.

Poor Matthew, lots of healing vibes to him. You have caught it early. Keep us updated on how he is doing x

Thank you so much. Yeah I caught it I think not long after he got it as I checked on him at 11pm and at 5am I noticed it. So it was sometime between that.
I will keep everyone updated. I'm trying to mentally prepare myself for the worst outcome as he's really not doing much of anything.

huge hugs , What did the vet prescribe?
 
Good stuff, you'll need something more than painkiller... Definite vets visit tomorrow to get that sorted... that is the issue with E-vets and lack of knowledge but obviously the pain killer will help. Your a great piggy slave remember that you'll get him through this x

I'm going to do my best for him. If he passes I know I will have done everything I can. I'm a lot wiser than I used to be when I lost Ludwig in 2013. These little ones teach you so much.

Hey everyone, just to update you all Matthew just passed away.

His head went sort of floppy and he just gently curled up on his side and slipped away. He was so drugged up though I don't think he really knew too much what was going on.

I'm really upset but I'm relieved it was so fast for him and peaceful.

I am ever so sorry; what a sad shock for you! Sadly, guinea pigs can go downhill very quickly and there is not much you can do in those circumstances - and you have already done what you could.

Thank you everyone for your well wishes.

I've just gotten home from the vets and he is going to be cremated and returned to me next week.
