Hi

My brandy has recently developed a wet bottom area. ? She's usually wet round her vaginal area but she's eating well and acting like she normally has done. I noticed a small amount of white foam round her exit passage this morning. I've read that that could be 'Bloat' where gas is excreted in the form of a foam and that a teaspoon of vegatable oil could help. It's meant to occur when there's a drastic food change in their diet but i havent changed anything really apart from giving her extra cabbage this past month. It's recommened that i put her onto a hay and water diet for 3 - 5 days but i'd feel awful not giving her her greens. I washed her bottom and it was fine for a couple of days then got wet again. I really dont want to go back to the vets. I recently had to have my baby Berri put down on tuesday due to a disease and i fear that they'll do the same to Brandy. I cant go through all that again. I was/still am gutted! But I will go if it gets worse. Any advice?
Thanks

Extra cabbage can cause it too.

Gripe water for babies - I know that they can have some of that (don't know about the dose, sorry) to easy off bloated tummies. Massaging tummy sides to is meant to help :)

She doesnt seem that bloated though. I'll cut down on her greens and see if that helps. I'll massage her too. Ive just read on a site that if i tap, flick her sides/abdomen and if it sounds hollow then it's fatal! But she's not anorectic and hasnt stopped eating. She's fine and happy. I hope this isnt a serious problem. I've had nothing but problems with all my pigs that i bought from Pets At Home. I'm NEVER buying anything from there again!
Where can i buy gripe water from?
Thanks!

Don't give up hope, not everything you read is true :)

Gripe water, you can get it from pharmacies/chemists and supermarkets :)

Goood luck

Go to the vet and get her checked out for Cystitis and stones.
Bloat is a very definite balloning of the stomach (in my experience, others may be different), when you tap the tummy it makes a hollow sound. That doesn't mean its fatal! Or I have guineas here that shouldn't be!
Does she squeak/arch her back when peeing?
Try giving a Sodium Citrate product over the weekend - a sachet in water a day, then go to the vets as she may need antibiotics (Septrim for this) and go from there. Sodium Citrate prods can be bought from Boots or Superdrug and are not over the counter.

For Bloat give Infacol with Symethicone if you can.

Tell me about, the guineas I have bought have had short lifespans and quite a few health problems. >:( :)

I would suspect the cabbage. Definitely worth cutting out veggies for a couple of days. You could try feeding grass instead? Start with small quantities though.

One of my pigs came from PAH, and she has had numerous health problems. She's absolutely lovely and my favourite ( :embarassed: ), but I'd never get a pig from PAH again either.

Things seem to have got better. I have been cutting back on the greens over the past week and all day yesterday she was dry round her bottom. I hope she continues to stay dry. She doesnt arch her back when she pees. She's slighty tubby round her middle but then again, she did have a litter of 4 on christmas day :smitten: and she's always been like this with no problems. If i feel wetness again i'll definatly go see the vet... again >:( These vet bills are costing me a fortune. If they sold healthy pets in the first place i wouldnt be having these problems. But i'll do anything for my pigs no matter what the cost. Love them sooooooooooooo much! Thanks for advice everyone :D

2 of my girls I got from P@H have suffered probs,Phoebe doesnt seem to grow much and Paige her sister is on osteocare etc :(

I'm sure if they use the same breeders, some of those pigs are bred back to back or inbred

Good news that things seem to have got better, if she gets a wet bottom again like you say you are going to have to pop her down the vets, but hopefully you won't need to. O0 The p@h guineas I have had and have got were and are all very handsome, beautiful guineas and I believe this is the reason they have so many health problems as they are bred purely for their looks and not for any other reason e.g. health. >:(
