Hi, I have a piggie called 'Pip' who has a small problem whenever she needs to go to the toilet. :embarassed:

She squeals whenever she does a wee or poo, and for the past week has had a wet bum. She has a sister called 'Millie' who seems to be fine.

Does she need to go to the vet? Could there be anything I could feed her at home that might help?

Thanks (on behalf of Pip)

Hi and Welcome to the forum. :)

Poor little Pip, yes I would take her to the vet. It could be a Water Infection (UTI) I think unsweetened cranberry juice can be given for this but obviously you will need a proper diagnosis first.

Hopefully someone with more knowledge will pop along soon.

Good luck!

Thank you, I will take her to the vets as soon as possible and see what they say.

Pip sends a big kiss to everyone :-*

Yes she does need to see a vet, could be UTI, renal stones or cystitis-she is obviously in pain poor little thing. I hope you have a good guinea pig vet?
Sending healing wheeks Pips way :smitten: :smitten:

Hi

Yes I would take her to the vet. One of our guinea pigs has had problems recently and has been wet and is on antibiotics at the moment.

Yes, definitely take her to the vet as she'll probably need antibiotics.

Also for cystitis Peter Gurney's health pages recommend barley water to ease the discomfort. Boil up 1 part pearl barley to 10 parts water, let it cool, then give her the water (syringe is easiest) and see if she'll eat the barley too. I've done that for mine in the past.

Ok, I'm quite confused. First thing this morning I got an appointmaent with the vets at 5pm, and i checked Pip over and her bum was still wet.

I've been with her most of the day and this afternoon I noticed that she was no longer sqeaking when going to the toilet. So I just checked her bum and it was dry for the first time in over a week. I was just wondering wether I should still take her to the vets, even though all her symptoms have just cleared?

I would to be on the safe side, unlikely to have cleared up by itself :)

Thanks everyone for your help, we went to the vets and we now know it's cystitis and Pip has been given a course of antibiotics.

Dear of her, the vet said Pip was the most well behaved piggie she had met! :smitten: (except since coming home i gave her some romaine, and she's still angry with me!) :'(

Pip also sends her thanks to everyone :-*

i would take her to the vets and just keep a eye on her .i hope she is alright
