This is embarrassing I've been a piggy mum for 5 1/2 years, & I'm stuck with a problem l should no, the answer to!
We used to use duvets in our cage, under the fleece, it wasn't working after a while.
So we are on to disposable pads now.The fleece is constantly wet & the pads end up soaking wet. Both ideas are useless.
We end up changing the cage every 2-3 dads.
Do they wee more as they get older?

We have always had to change every 3 days

We now do this

Picnic sheet, towel, fleece, fleece liner, change the liner after 3 days

Fleece liner is in the high wee area

Actually they can start to wee more for all sorts of reasons - when we put the heating on mine start to guzzle water. It's actually a good thing as it keeps flushing those kidneys!

What's your set up? Inside or out? And what's under the pads... corex, lino, tiled floor?

And is your fleece the normal kind (goes a bit bobbly after a while) or the 'plushie' kind that almost looks like fur, because the strands on this stuff really hold on to the wet. We have a cuddle sack made of this stuff which they love but the pee puddles mean we can't leave it in there overnight!

I also use fleece and puppy pads. I end up having to change my fleece and the puppy pads twice a week, too. Never goes more than 4 days. If the pads are soaked then that means that your fleece is wicking through ok. So if the fleece is damp after 3 days with wee I think it must just be ready for a change.
In high traffic areas I use additional fleece squares (pee pads) eg under the houses and I change those every day. You can also use micro fibre bath mats under high traffic areas.

I have fleece and then a washable pee pad underneath. The fleece gets changed evey 3 days and the pee pad gets once a week on total hutch clean day unless my girls have had a wee fest in which case it gets changed more often.

I love newspaper, I’m big fan! I am lucky to get them off neighbours who save them for me. We do get the Sunday Times but it’s got thinner over the years so glad of the extras, especially The Mail, very chunky!
My two girls are water junkies, where Kiki and Hector barely drink at all, you can tell who live where by the cages after three days, one relatively dry and one quite wet in certain areas

We've tried a few different newspapers (as they come free with a big shop at Waitrose) and I can vouch for the rapid absorbency of the Telegraph - but watch out for the staples in the sports section. And it is quite a boring read. And the fashion mags at the weekend don't make any sense. But I still get it in the week because it's got big sheets and soaks up pee so well!

Saying that I've made up some 'fleece-zorb-fleece' sandwiches in large sizes to cover my floor and smaller 1/2 and 1/4 pee-pad sizes to top it on the bit by the bars where they stake each other out and I'm very happy with them. I think Zara has figured out why her territorial pee keeps vanishing and has now taken to pressing her backside to the bars and pooping through to the other side when no-one is looking. I keep finding this little cairn... I can tell it's her!
