Hi all, we have just noticed that one our our piggies Poppy has a wet face and chin at one side. It's to the right of her mouth. I've been thinking for a couple if days that she hasn't been herself, we've cut her nails to make sure she's not uncomfortable as they were getting a bit long. I've looked at her teeth and they look normal, I cant see any sore bits or anything. We have just dried her face and are going to leave her a while to see if she is wet again.
Has anybody ever noticed this? Could it just be from the water bottle?
Maybe i'm being a bit paranoid,I think its just because i've had my eye on her for a coupke of days thinking she didn't seem herself.
She doesnt appear to have lost any weight and has always eaten more slowly than our other piggy so has always been smaller.

Thanks

It could be her teeth. She needs to see a vet as if she has any troubles with her teeth it will stop her eating.

Agreed. Dribbling can be a sign of problems with the back teeth - you will need to see a vet experienced in guinea pigs as they have a different dental presentation than rabbits.

If you contact Joanne at Milhaven gp rescue hopefully she can recommend a suitable vet - you may need to syringe feed if your piggy's mouth becomes to painful to eat properly.

She is still eating ok at the moment, she's been eating veg & pellets ok today.
I will definitely keep a close eye on her & take her to the vet ASAP if she is actually dribbling.

Just discovered her face is wet again so it seems like she is dribbling. I have just sat and watched her eat pellets so she is definitely eating at the moment.
However I am very worried because the vets closed at midday today & isn't open again until Tuesday. We are away overnight tomorrow which wouldn't normally be a problem as we'd just feed them their veggies early and make sure they have enough pellets and water for overnight.

The place we are staying (OH parents) have two very boysterous cats so i'd be very worried about them getting into the cage :(

Definatley get those back teeth checked out as soon as you can by a cavy savy vet, if the piggie goes off their food and drops body weight there will be more of a risk if they need to go under GA to have them sorted out.

Thanks everyone, thanks for your help via email Helen!
Will be calling Holly House on boxing day.
I've just had Poppy on my knee eating baby spinach which she loves. She can bite the leaves as normal but is very slow chewing them.
Also gave her a seperate bowl of pellets earlier which a softened with water, she definitely ate some although it took her a while.
Very worried about leaving them tomorrow but she seems in fairly good spirits & has eaten. Will get her out again in the morning and make sure she eats some more spinach before we go, as well as leaving lots of veg, hay and water, plus some more softened pellets.
Have a happy christmas everyone x

Just an update on this. We took Poppy to the vets this morning and she is having her teeth trimmed under an anaesthetic this afternoon. She also has suspected abscesses in het mouth so will need antibiotics.
Waiting to hear from them so keeping our fingers crossed.

Just heard that she is ok but still sleepy. They are keeping her in for a couple of hours and trying to get her to eat something. We might need to syringe feed her though.
Really relieved! Just want to snuggle with her now!

She's home! A bit spaced and probably sick of being man handled but she's eaten a bit of baby spinach and we've syringed her some pellet mash. Her mouth will be sore for a while & she's got a check up on Thursday.
She's got some antibiotics for the abscess & a wound on the inside of her cheek from her overgrown teeth.
Its a recurring problem so we need to keep an eye on her. I hope its not too often as it will cost us an absolute fortune if today is anything to go by!
