Wet grass?

My sister was told by the vet that rabbits kept indoors shouldn't go out on the grass if it's damp as it can upset their stomachs. Does the same apply to house-kept piggies? Just bought my girls a fab new run and can't wait to use it but grass is damp today!

I never put my indoors pigs on cold wet grass. I have a "handtest" first, as they can easily get urinary tract infections from being on a cold damp surface; and those can be very stubborn to clear!

When I cut wet grass for them to eat indoors, they won't eat as much as if it was dry.
 
I would pick wet grass to feed them but I don't put them out on wet grass as they get wet tummies... I test it first with my hand too!

Just added...

I do have 2 pairs of boars who live out in secure runs in the summer and they prefer the wet grass to the bright sunshine later in the day! mallethead

Thanks guys. It was so hot here today the grass dried out pretty quickly - but then I was worried it was too hot for them so had to wait for the sun to move round so they had shade! By the time they got out in it it was about 6pm! mallethead

Kind hubby is going to make a shade for the run (he doesn't know yet :)))

What I do is put towels over half of the run and clip with pegs, and easy to move when sun moves around! It gives them a choice and prevents heat build up!

Never had any problems with mine on dewy grass-- they do this really cute thing when their tummies get wet where they sit up on their hind legs and shake like a dog!
 
I don't put any of my outdoor buns or piggies on damp grass but thats just my preference. I'm not sure if it would upset their stomachs or not but I'd be concerned about them getting damp and catching a chill.

If you dampen to towel first (not so it drips or anything) it works even better at keeping them cool.
 
I never take my piggies outside so bring grass in. I wash it and then dry it off.
