We've lost our boy

Our beloved Mont has passed away. The anaesthetic and procedures must have been too much for the boy. They are in the garden. Clary knew before us. As I went out he was licking Monts face through the pod window. He moved away for a couple of minutes but returned quickly
He is lying with the body now nearly two hours. What should I do? Is he ready for me to take Mont out?
Nyx who is parallel knows too. Monty came and woffled at him through the divide when I put them out earlier. Please advise
 
Oh no. I’m so sorry. Is Monty still here? Maybe he’s just really sleepy. When did he have the operation?

You could call the vets and ask their opinion. Is he usually an outside piggy? I’d bring him inside and closely monitor him.
 
I’ve just read your other thread.

You gave him gabapentin this morning? It is a very strong medication. I’ve never used it so can’t comment. But I have read on here that some piggies have bad reactions to it.

I’d bring him inside and keep him settled. Does he feel cold (ears). I’d call the vets and ask their advice. Good luck I hope it’s just a strong reaction to it.
 
Hi there. It's his second dose of gabapentin. He was in such pain yesterday I gave him some. As I couldn't sleep I hand fed him some tender grass around 4.30 this morning. It took him ages and he was exhausted. He had his meds at 8am. They have a run with wooden pods and spend the day in the garden as usual in good weather. Monts eyes look a bit glassy there is no laboured breath. Tiniest movement in his side. Him and Clary are side by side in the shade together in the pod. He looks peaceful and I'm not sure if I should move him. They have been upstairs in the large playpen during this time. Usually they go into parallel hutches in the garage.
Are cold ears a sign of passing away?
I have brought Nyx their parallel pig in for a fuss.
 
I’ve always been told to keep them warm after an operation as it can take some time to regulate their temperature. Which is why I asked about his temp. But it could also be a sign of the body closing down.

Are your vets open for emergencies today? If so I’d call them just to ask their advice. Good luck 🤞🏻
 
Hi there. I rang the vets and it happened to be the vet who did his operation. She said it sounded like an extreme reaction to the gabapentin. Remarkably having not moved for about three hours he staggered up and moved to a different pod. His ears feel the same as the other two boys I just checked. I am to hand feed and monitor overnight and ring again in the morning. Obviously before then if other problems arise. She checked his meloxyidl dosage and says it at the maximum she wants to give.
Clary who had been beside him all this time hopped up and came out to graze!

That’s reassuring. Hopefully once it wears off he can have a drink and some syringe feed. Good luck.
 
Thank you. He has had a good go at the water bottle. The emerald papaya has arrived so I will be trying that
 
If he’s still very sleepy go careful with the syringe feeding. Only offer small amounts at a time. ❤️
 
Well he has fought me at every step but got the emeraid down. Poor boy exhausted. Balmy evening going outside with the boys

Will push our vet to try and find an alternative painkiller. Awful to see him like this
