Ahhh I'm so excited, we went to the rescue today and my son picked our guineas. We are getting them for my youngest's birthday (though really they are a family pet. Well actually a pet for me!). I said to my eldest that he could come and pick (his 6 year old mind is so very proud that he got to make such a momentous decision).

He held 4 different piggies (1 from 4 different pairs) and he picked the last ones immediately. 2 young girls (about 10 months I think) called Betty and Bertha.

I'm picking them up in 2 weeks. EXCITED!

wahay! Woohoo! At long last the day has almost arrived! I'm so pleased your son has chosen his girls and hope you have as much fun taking them over as i.ve had taking benson and stanley off my daughter! It.s been piggy theft right under her nose! We'll all be counting down to the big day with you and can.t wait to see more pics of these little piggies!

Great news! It really makes a difference meeting the piggies in person at a rescue - that way, you can find the ones you click with! Your eldest has certainly good taste and a love for the dramatic!

Oh they are so cute, he picked well :))! Looking forward to hearing more about your girls!

Thanks everyone, it's great being on here having you guys to share my excitement!

Well actually I have my home visit from a lady from the rescue tomorrow. Gosh I hope I'm suitable! She's not been the most friendly of people on the phone (in fact a know a few people who have ended up buying rabbits/guinea pigs from p@h because she's been so rude on the phone :( )

She told me I wasn't allowed to go to the centre and pick any piggies in case we weren't suitable, I was naughty and went anyway! All being well I'll officially reserve them tomorrow afternoon (though a different lady at the centre told me she would mark them as reserved anyway for me so no one else could have MY girls...)

I've got a midwest habitat cage (to live upstairs) but then grids to make a run in the living for when we're in. I work part time so expect them to be down in the living room more often than not. Even on my work days they'll still come downstairs to spend the evening with us. Actually I fully expect within a few weeks the cage will be in the living room but my husband doesn't know it yet!

We've passed the home visit and are getting the girls on 12th November, yay!

I should take it back about the lady from the rescue centre. She was lovely, she said about how strict they have to be to ensure the well-being of the animals and to prevent the animals being given back when people have got bored or not cared for them well enough.

Fair enough. It must be horrendous working in a rescue centre and seeing the poor animals that have been mistreated or ignored (though I know some people have very real and genuine reasons for needing to rehome an animal).

Hello from North Yorkshire! They are beautiful girls - and the getting ready for them coming can be really exciting. There is loads of stuff in the food and housing section on bedding options and suitable veggies etc if you need!:)

Yipeee we are so happy for you and your family... and your lovely girls...:))xoxo

congratulations on passing the home check! It.s brilliant news! Though to be honest i think we would have all been suprised had you failed - i am predicting you and your son are going to be great piggy slaves:)

I have two midwest cages for two and will be getting another for my new rescue piggie :) they are by far the best shop bought cages and are easily expandable. I think they look quite snazzy to! :)

I agree about the cage, I got it out today (realised I better check it was all ok before getting the girls home next week!) and it's ace, and look easily expandable.

I also got the run out, it's massive. My plan is that the run will live in the lounge and when we get up in the morning, if it's not a work day, I'll bring them down and they'll be in the lounge. Effectively it's like they'll have 2 homes, I'll make sure they have hideaways, food etc. in the run.

not sure how my husband will feel when he see's how big it is though :))

Oh well, now my youngest is at school I'm using any broodiness I may have on the piggies. I'm sure John would prefer a big run and 2 girlies rather than another baby...
