Popcorning is when they are happy and they jump up and put their head to the side. Some people think they look asif they are taking a fit. They'll start squeaking once they settle down. Misty wasnt squeaking within a few hours of getting him. I think it's best for piggies to be kept indoors all year round. I would feel cruel otherwise. :)

Hello and welcome

Dont worry is the first thing i would say

As they are so young i would keep them inside for a while as they wont have had time to grown their winter coats

Popcorning is like little jumps when they are happy

It will take them a few weeks to get used to you and they will now soon that you are the bringer of food ! The more you handle them and stroke thejm the more used to you they get !

They will soon start wheeking at you when you have them on your lap !

Just out of interest what type of cage/hutch have you got ?

It's just a basic 5ft one level one with a seperate sleeping area, nearly bought the smaller one but they said that I needed a bigger one for 2, so I suppose they did one thing right but then again they got more money! Don't know what sort of inside one we will get, P & H only seemd to have 1 type and I don't know if it is big enough for 2 they said it is when I rang them this afternoon, but I'm not convinced.

I would suggest the C & C grids(cavycages.com) but finding the grids is a nightmare

have a look on www.zooplus.co.uk i know the rabbit 120 or 100 is good as an indoor cage so have a look there

Yes that should be fine i ordered mine from there but i sent mine back only because i had my shed sorted and decided to keep them in there

Thank you so much, it's cheaper than P at H and we've already spent a fortune!

Calm down!

You're obviously going to be a great owner as you're doing so much research.

They might not make any noise for a while. They do need to gain confidence in their new home. I also found that when I was new to guineas I found it quite hard to catch them, but you have to persevere, so they can't get away with calling all the shots, and so you can build up trust between the two of you. It's early days yet!

You could (if you have the room) keep the hutch indoors to save a few pennies. Is by any chance the other piggy called Violet or Prinrose? I have a 4 year old who's into fifi & the flower tots - although she calls Violet - Violent!
Welcome on board :)

I have my boys indoors in the front room, and it's lovely having them there :)

You have done the right thing in keeping them in! It is too cold for babies to go out now - and having them inside is such fun anyway! You won't want them to move back out when the warmer weather comes I bet you now!

becasue i have 34 they are all in 2 sheds purpose built for them but they have heating and blinds at the windows etc I would say by coming on here to get one to one up to date information you did the right thing we all adore and keep pigs, me for over 36 years, so if we cant help you no one can lol, welcome anyway and I'm sure your babies will settle down soon, by the way be warned guinea pigs are highly addictive, and popcorning is so endearing they always make you smile,

I have 31 pigs so they live in a purpose built shed as well. They don't have heating as they don't need it. Piggies can cope with the cold, its draughts that they can't cope with. Mine always have plenty of hay which provides fuel for their internal central heating systems and keeps them warm.

You will laugh when you see them popcorning, its soooo funny, especially when its a week old baby doing it ;D. They jump around like they have a firecracker up their bums. Popcorning is a good sign as only happy healthy pigs will popcorn :)

I must admit when i first saw them doing it i thought something was wrong but it was just them being happy ! ;)

When I first saw my two popcorning I honestly thought something was wrong, the way that Duney was shaking his head looked quite violent, so I did my research and found that he was perfectly fine, if it wasn't for forums and things i'd be completely in the dark! :P

Thanks everyone, you've made me feel a lot better, they are now in the new cage and seem to be settling in OK, not heard a sound out of them yet, and I've been told that they can make a lot of noise, so we're all waiting! They are really enjoying their food, have given them pear this morning and they wolfed it down, am feeding them little and oftem so that they have to come out of the sleeping area!
