Adult Guinea Pig
Well my Piggy shed (also known as The Piggery) was all finished and ready for my 4 boars to go in.
We placed Squeaky and the new baby Rodger in first - they had never met before - alot of humping and rubblestrutting went on and lots of cries from the baby which i hate. After a few hours it all settled down and squeaky has taken on the role of fatherhood and hes doing a mighty good job of it! He's cleaning rodger - guarding him whilst he eats and when i put some grass in he nudged rodger to it and walked round him whilst he ate it! What a good piggie! Extra veggies for him today!
However - Bruce and humphrey well thats a different story! The boars have previously lived together in harmony until bruce hit his hormonal days!
They've slowly been getting to know each other over the past few weeks, through bars and through scent. They seemed to be getting on.
We placed them in the new shed yesterday. I left them to get on with things and checked on them every 20 mins. All seemed fine - they were humping from all sides, the odd bit of chasing but mainly lots of popcorning!
Everything completely settled down by 4pm and i was left with 2 pairs of boars that seemed at ease.........................
Until i checked on them before bed.
11pm last night i walked into the shed to find Humphrey and Bruce trying to lunge at each other! Loud chattering and teeth showing.
I immediately set up another hutch and removed Bruce as he seems to be the trouble maker! Gave them both a quick check up and luckily no blood has been drawn! Bruce was in a horrible mood though so he had cuddles in the shed and some veggies to calm him down.
Needless to say i didn't make it to bed till after midnight! I'm so glad i checked on them!
This morning they all seem happier - rodger and squeaky were snuggled up, bruce was having his breakfast and humphrey was wheeking for veggies!
I might try and reintroduce them in a few months time but for now i think i'll leave them as they are and just give them extra attention.
Any thoughts or advice?
