I think its true what they say. Illness in piggies is like busses! Last week I went to clean my two piggies out and found that suddenly there was loads of blood on thier fleece liner. I raced them to the vets who after some investigation said it was cystitis and gave me some anti-biotics. Had a fun filled week trying to syringe feed them thier medication...

Anyway they settled down and when i cleaned them out again today they had a massive fight over the pigloo's and who was going to sit in which one. I thought nothing of it as they fight on and off anyway and it didnt look serious when I checked on them...

But then i heard a strange hiccup/sneezy noise and it sounded wet.,.... Opened up the pigloo and my poor sheldon was sneezing blood all over! Ive never been soo terrified in all my life. All the way to the vets he was sneezing loads and loads of blood. it was everywhere! all over the cream carpet my white vest the lot. He gave me such a fright!

He'd been knocked on the head by the leonard and had a small cut in his nose. Nothing serious but it looked arwful and vet was worried he'd lost alot of blood. Got them seperated now and sheldon has had some anti inflamatories and a booster injection amongst other things. Feeling very sorry for himself and ive put in him his favourite pigloo with loads of bedding and some of his favourite treats.

Has anyone else had this? Where thier pigs decide to have mad couple of weeks and just get ill and what have you all in one go.. Little :<

Oh my lord, yep I've have the same traumatic times.. and all in one go. Never had a problem with my girls until they were about 4! DT developed a hard round stomach, which turned out to be extensive massive ovarian cysts. The surgery was complicated but she pulled through. About 2 weeks later Leeland developed oral issues which took 2 weeks to diagnose as necrotisation of the tongue and cheek. I had to change vets and after all the surgeries and biopsies I'd spent over a grand. She took 5 months to get the weight on. About a month in from Leeland's problems DT started to become sluggish and bloated again. Vet suggested a booster dose of infacol, pineapple juice and gave me a gut stimulant. She parped alright, but the next morning looked worse. He gave her a thorough squeezing and she made a face (if they can).. he took her for a scan and saw that her insides were FULL of fluids. He opened her up then and there to relieve them but she was bleeding out all over the place. She'd had a huge mucosal heamorrhagic enteropathy and he had to put her to sleep. I was glad I was there... About 2 weeks after that Leeland succumbed to depression from he own poor health and the loss of her cagemate and developed bumblefoot.. which we are still giving daily footwashes in surgical scrub, the last time we tried to stop the foot care (deespite her foot looking normal) she had swollen up again signifying deep tissue trauma... Worst 5 months of my life!

Oh yes, one time I had to take 2 pigs to the vets on the same day for GAs for different things... expensive day that was!

Dear little pigs & the things we do for them rolleyes

Not just a week, the last 3 months. Firstly Paprika with an episode of bloat and an overnight stay in hospital. Followed by Rosie who had the removal of 4 lumps and a spay then just when i thought that was it I had to rush Midge to the vets where she was diagnosed with with a severe kidney infection. In between this we also have Panda with her intermittant asthma attacks. I'm keeping my fingers crossed thats it for the next few months.

Sorry for delayed reply. Been working all week.

midge's human, how did they treat the severe kidney infection.?
Had a horrible week with the other one now.. After the pigs fights then been seperated temporarly and now sheldon has suddenly started peeing loads of blood again! just as he was getting better.

Phoned vets who said to carry on with antibitics and come in first thing 2moro to get something stronger and bring him in. So worried!

She's still on antibiotics - she will have had a 2 week course of abs and pain relief as of tuesday (12th), still not sure if its cleared up yet. Stopping all the medication on tuesday to see what happens but getting some in incase she goes downhill again. If she does back to the vets for further advice. The problem is that she's getting on a bit and shes sleeping more and becoming grumpier so its difficult to tell whether its old age or the infection.

Bless her. I'm worried that mine might have to be put to sleep :( Nothing is working and he was rescued from a arwful place and he has alwaysbeen a bit sicky..

So worried about the costs. The vet fund took a huge dent with all these vists and treatment. There is like no info on my vets websites for charges of stuff like that :<

I understand your worry both with the health of your little one and the costs of treatment. There are many knowledgeable people on here it might be worth reposting and outlining exactly what is wrong with your little one and see if anyone can help. Hugs to you and you piggies. xx

Thanks hun. Ive just made a post in health and illness. hopefully someone can give me a hand with ideas of costs. :( poor little guy, Got him out for cuddles and some of his favourite foods. But he is still eating but he is just soo sad and grumpy :< hope yours gets better soon x
