General curiosity.

Got 2 piggies from Pets At Home, one from local petstore.

When enquired about the age all I got was "really young". Took me all my politeness to not reply with "DUH!" to the answers :D

So does anyone actually KNOW what age PAH guinea pigs usually are when in the shop being sold? So I can know roughly how old mine are!

Officially they are supposed to be 8 weeks old, but it is rather questionable in some cases!

The piggies are imported from rodent farms on the Continent and all chucked together during the transport, which provides us with a regular stream of pregnant teenage sows. :(

Oh my :( I've been really ignorant and not known that happened :( So my pigs could be literally just a couple of months when I go get them from there? Wow that's really young. Feel quite bad now

Some look like they are younger, to be honest!

I've never seen a guinea pig from birth onwards, hence how I'm quite ignorant to the sizes.

This is a picture of my own shop bought girl (not p@h, but the same supplier) with her newly born babies, eating an afterbirth on top of one. Mummy is about 4 months old and small for her age; the babies were just about 70g (that is the lower end of the ideal birth weight)

And the reason why I have gone strictly rescue since!

Oh wow they are tiny!
Going by the size of the tube etc I'd guess my piggies are about 5-6 months old, so given I got the first in March would have made him about 2-3 months old. Those babies are beautiful and so so small!

I was told between 8 and 10 weeks old when I happened to curiously ask one day as some pigs looked bigger than others. I think that's the correct age they should be x

I used to work in a pet shop a while back and when they started stocking animals they came from one of these 'farms'. I believe the guinea pigs were about 6 weeks-8 weeks.

I got told between 8-10 weeks when I got my Poppy too. They don't have a clue of their age so say that to everyone!

I got told 8-10 weeks too, but when I took them to the vet a week later he concerndily (that's not a real word?) ask how old they where; when I told him he didn't say anything but pulled a face as if to say "I doubt it"...
