I have been feeding the pets at home pellets for three years since they where babies but the new packaging has revealved that they are alfalfa based not Timothy based pellets. Which are the best brand of pellets to feed? It would preferably be ones available to buy at pets at home or another shop rather than online. Darcy only has a little over 1/8 of a cup but due to Daisy and peppa living together I am less able to control how much they get to eat. They also get fed unlimited hay and one cup of fresh veggies a day e.g. Bell peppers, coriander, radicchio, cucumber, lettuce l and a small piece of fruit once or twice a week.

I feed my piggies oxbow pellets for adults as they are timothy based and the best quality pellets available to me (we have like 4 brands to choose from here lol). The piggies love them. I make a mix of three different pellets, the oxbow for adults, some other oxbow brand and burgess with mint that I give them for a treat once a week to keep things interesting for them. Looks like you are doing a good job with their diet.

Thank you! I will have a look if I can buy them anywhere near me.

I'd say the best ones are grain free ones, however you will be limited as to what you can buy in shops.

Rosewood Naturals grain free nuggets are pretty good and you can buy them in some places but are expensive. They last a long while though, a 2kg box lasts 2 piggies a whole month if fed correctly.

I feed those, JR Grainless & Versele Laga right now, however the last two I have to get on zooplus but it's not a big deal as it's pretty cheap and gets delivered right to my door :))

Science Selective also do a timothy hay based grain free nugget now but it looks fairly high in sugar. That you can buy in P@H but looking into it it's probably not one I'd feed if they keep the same ingredients.

Pellets are only about 5% of their diet anyway, keeping grain free is beneficial to them as grains are harder to digest and in most animals can cause allergy type reactions so I steer clear of it with all my animals due to the reaction my cat has.

Which ever one you try always mix it in slowly and gradually :)

Thank you for your help!
Our bags usually last a few weeks so I will be using that all up first but then I will look for a new brand and introduce it slowly. I will have a look online if it's going to be a better brand. My only issue with that is if for whatever reason we run out unexpectedly or can't get them online for some reason and we are stuck with no pellets to feed them until we can.

To be honest your best bet is to find a new food sooner rather than later, typically my pigs take a week or two to eat a new food properly (but I've changed theirs quite a bit) and it used to take about a month :))

Yea I worried about running out too, now that I feed 3 different types they come in different bags and bag sizes I've never ran out yet. If I do I know I could dash to the shops to get the Rosewood one as that's one that I feed in the mix.

I put the three types in a storage box and rotate for even distribution and hey presto you have a nice healthy mix for everyone to enjoy! It all gets eaten at least :))

I have made a video all about pellets hope it helps

The Rosewood pellets are fantastic, I would highly reccommend them. Comparing the ingredients list to something like Oxbow, id never change to anything else as a base to my own mix! They might be a bit expensive but id rather pay a bit more for good quality ingredients.

When I first got my boys I used Oxbow as most sites recommended. After a few months I looked again at the ingredients and decided to swap to Rosewoods with a bit of versele-laga mixed in.
Not entirely sure about the versele as first ingredient is derivatives of vegetable origin, so could be anything like waste beet/carrot etc. so its mainly Rosewoods as its all grass and herbs with the other for a treat as they do prefer the taste.

Thankyou everyone! Sorry I've not replied I haven't been on for over a week
