The only sounds I hear coming out of my piggies' mouths are indicative for me to keep away and that they are angry - I've had them for 10 days and they came from a terrible background!

But what does this mean? They seem a bit more friendly, I've started recording some of their sounds to define...

Thats the sound my piggies make when I've disturbed them so think it probably means they are annoyed/upset. I have only had mine for a few days though so I'm still learning their sounds. Hopefully an expert will be along shortly to let you know ;)

It sounds to me like they're a bit agitated. There's an awful lot of chat going on there. My boys make that sound when they don't want me too close (sometimes they don't wanna be picked up!) or if another pig is irritating them.

They're probably still a little nervous. Give them time and I'm sure they'll come round :)

Give them some time. 10 days is not long for piggies without a bad background, they need to know they can trust you. Approach cage talking quietly to them, so as not to startle them, They may never have been handled, so don't force this. Make all contact good, eg a slice of veggie each, trust can take a long time, but with patience it's worth it. xx

Iv had max for near 4m now and he makes that noise whenever getting cuddled. He doesnt seem agitated or unhappy when he does it so I just figured he was a chatty boy talking to me! It sounds like a babble. none of my others do it tho! so i dont really know ..... not much use am I :))

That isn't aggitation thats happy chatter. They sound quite content to me having a little potter about and a yabber. sounds pretty chilled and content. if they weren't making a noise that would be an indication of stress and not being comfortable with the situation. I rescued a group of 10male guineapigs who had the most outragous mange and were literally skin and bones (one had a rib that had broken and was protruding through the skin!) and it took 2 weeks before i even heard them make a noise! so the sounds yours are making are very encouraging and you should be happy. chatting teeth is aggression. x

I agree that this noise is a happy contented one, not at all aggitated or agressive.
This noise is them just chatting away together!

The noise of them being unhappy is more of a low sounding rumbling noise.

I wouldn't say they are angry so it would be safe to try and stroke one of them (it's very unlikely they would bite anyway) but there might be something near their cage they don't like, just look around for anything that it could be and have a sit down near them so they get used to seeing, smelling etc you. Our piggies make this noise from time to time and after a nice stroke and a bit of a treat (like dandelion leaves or hay) they soon stop it.

mine make that sort of noise all the time to each other!

Mine made that noise yesterday when I was giving her dinner and I was worried that she was agitated too, but from the majority response, I am encouraged! :(|)
