Just wondering what you all are feeding for pellets? Should they be hay based or what am I looking for when getting pellets for the piggies?

A lot of pellets are alfalfa based, which is believed to be not ideal for adult pigs due to the nutritional content of legumes, which is what alfalfa is, rather than a grass. I have three 9month old girls who are on Burgess Excell pellets (alfalfa based) but I'm planning on swapping them to a grainless (and alfalfa-less) pellet once they're grown up. I'm sure a very many pigs are fed alfalfa pellets their whole lifes without any problems

Not sure about US pellets, sorry.
In the UK we tend to give Burgess, Harringtons or Science Selective.
Hopefully some US members may answer your query.

Ok. I heard that too- that it wasn't enough Vitamin C but ok to feed rabbit pellets as long as they had vitamin C

Just wanted to know if there was any truth to that or not.

Thanks!

Piggies require specialist piggy pellets with the right amount of VIT C. So rabbit pellets are not acceptable for piggies.
We don't mind answering questions so it's always good to ask if you are unsure about anything.

So what kind of pellets should I be looking for to feed? Should they be hay based as mentioned alfalfa isn't the best choice to be feeding all the time to adult piggies.
