ive being out to a fair few pet shops ive being looking at all the diffrent prices of hay pellet foods just to see whos the cheapest and what i came across alot today is rabbit and guinea pig food mix most pet shops that ive being in sell both museli and pellet whats every ones view on buying a pellet or museli that feeds both rabbit and guinea pig is it just me being picky by thinking on the lines as an all in one rabbit &guinea pig food cant be to good for these animals i always understood that guinea pig and rabbit food are totally diffrent foods

I think that it could be ok. Because guinea pigs and rabbits don't technically need pellets/mix anyway, they could live on just hay/grass and veggies and stuff. But it depends what the nutritional content is I guess :)

its being bugging me most of day as ive always known guinea pig food and rabbit food to be seprate foods dident realise pet shops sell rabbit and cavie all in one foods

I only ever buy piggy food for my piggies rolleyes Wagg Muesli and pellets and a few Burgess Excel daily keep my lot happy -c
Always thought the same as you that piggies and buns had different dietary needs :{ Someone told me years ago that feeding a piggy rabbit food is like giving a fish bird seed :(
It's not something I would do and would never buy the pre bagged up c**p from pet shops in plastic bags - dunno what's in there :x

Hmm I'm not sure I would trust it as I've always been told they have different diets. Some rabbit foods contain an antibiotic(?) which can shorten a guinea pig's lifespan, and then rabbit food doesn't contain extra vitamin C which guinea pigs require. So I'm not sure how you could balance this in a combined food?

I'm not sure i'd go for it personally...

its got to be same principle as an all in one cat/dog food...

you wouldnt trust that... (not that its real... lol)

rabbits and guineas and completely different... so surely theyd need different food...
but if I'm honest ive never tried the stuff...

i always find buying bulk is the cheapest way to go personally...

x

We buy hay by the bale £5.00 each and the largest Excel you can find for both our bunnies and pigs :))

Only the best for my herd. I wouldnt touch anything that is a complete rabbit and guinea pig food. They are completely different species with different dietary needs. If your looking for something relatively cheap then i would suggest Wagg pellets. Its good quality and not too expensive. I would also suggest getting a pellet diet as this stops selective feeding. This way the piggie gets a balanced pellet diet.

I buy my lot a 10kg bag of Burgess Excel pellets for £20. Seems a lot, but much cheaper in the long run and lasts me quite a while.

x.

I would use all in one piggy/rabbit diets either :)

They do have different nutritional needs, but if you think about it, cereals and other ingredients in most pig or rabbit food isn't really natural for them either. They don't technically need dry food at all, it's just to make it easier and cheaper and give them more calories and make sure they get all their nutrients they need.

But if you gave them loads of fresh food and hay and grass, then a tiny bit of dry food, then it wouldn't really matter if it was the combined food, because it would just be adding a few more calories for them, but they'd still have their nutrients from the fresh food and hay and all.

But it's not really worth it, it's safer just to feed the specific guinea pig food really :)

I wouldn't feed one aimed at both personally, rabbits need a lot more fibre in their diet & also more of a specific vitamin been up too long and can't remember which.

I'm feeding this to my piggies

even with P&P added on it works out really reasonable, especially as I order the rabbit Optimum at the same time so combine the postage.

If you wanted a sample of it, I can always send you some then you can see if they will eat it or not.

Rabbits and piggies have quite different dietry needs, not to mention that guinea pigs require more vitamin C than rabbits, so they should have more Vitamin C in their food and there should be less in Rabbit food.

Seems not dissimilar to giving a hamster guinea pig food, or giving a rat Degu mix.
