I'm interested in changing to either fleece or vetbed but I am increasingly put off.

I already have to change their woodshavings every three days anyway.

I am trying to find a method that is both better for the pigs, not too expensive and lasts longer than 3 days.

Is there anything like this?

Errr nope! guineas need to be cleaned out at least twice a week fully and spot cleaned daily. They live, eat, wee and poop in one cage all day you cant really expect it not to get mucky, smelly and wet after a day or two rolleyes

if only chick! mind you,i find "mucking out the pigs" quite theraputic!

It does depend on how big their hutch/cage is! with fleece you will have to either sweep up or lift out and shake poos off on a daily basis. and the fleece will have to be washed every about every 3-5 days.

It depends whether you mind doing a little bit everyday and then a complete change on the 5th day or would you rather just do the whole lot every 3 days with shavings/megazorb.

I have some piggies on pro vet fleece for health reason and some on megazorb and hay. fleece definately keeps them drier and cleaner but the washing can be a nightmare! especially for me as i have large family and dog towels to wash too!

it's good for the nose, it's good for the nose! :))

I find fleece the worst for cleaning, but I use it right now as I can't have hay in the house it gets up my snooter and acts as an allergy!

I do find megazorb good. It all depends on mucky pigs. Twinkle is disgraceful he poops he wees and he sits in it! He is just crazy! So regular cleaning for him. But Pudsey and Eccles do it in corners so I can get 3 days out of them if need be. Leia and Lyra are like that too.

Helen where do you get easibed from? Is it the horse shops? I was going to change to aubiose in the spring for outdoors. :)

Yes for Equestrian Suppliers or from any Pet Suppliers - they should order it in for you. Its £7.00 a bale. Aubiose is £9.00 a bale and Hemcore is about £9.00 a bale also. They are all quite similar. I get it as I find it does keep the smell down quite a lot - and when you have up to 40 (as it was at Christmas) guinea pigs in your house in one room at any one time - you need to keep the smell down ha ha ha.

I bought some vetbed at the weekend and i have been cleaning the poo's off every day then gona put it in the wash on friday. It isnt smelling yet and still feels dry so they should be fine as long as there arent poos everywhere!

Thanks Helen, I can imagine, haha same when they were on hay they were killing my nose. Lot better on fleece as long as cleaned out every other day! I should be like Popeye the amount of cages I have to move around the room!...lol

Aubiose has gone up in price and is around £10 now. Gorgeous Guineas are recommending Equisorb and this is around £8 per bag. Not tried it yet as they were waiting for supplies to be delivered this week.

thanks everyone. of course I would rather clean them out and I don't mind doing so. I am also not stupid enough to assume that they would be happy sat in their own muck for days! I just wondered what keeps them the cleanest longest.

I think I am going to try fleece or vetbed. I am happy to give a sweep of the poos each day and then change every 3 - 5. Even changing that every 3 days doesn't bother me. Just cleaning out a sawdust cage every 2 - 3 days does :(|)

SOOOOO - next question? Regarding vetbed. The pile of vetbed can be quite deep can't it? so does not poops and food all get stuck in it?
