What brand of guinea pig food do you use? At the moment I use oxbow cavy cuisine but I want to get ideas of some of the other good guinea pig foods.

I use selective which is the cheapest at pets at home and the best In my opinion! I also mix it with let's at home and excel mint nuggets so my piggies get a variety!

Excel nuggets at the moment, but currently lurking about the food forum to see if there's anything better! :)

I use RSPCA own brand nuggets, available online from the RSPCA shop. Some shelters also sell them if they have a shop attached to their reception office.

I'm currently changing my guineas each pigs over to Bunny Guinea pig dream as I have read on this forum that this is the best pellet.

Oxbow Cavy cuisine is one of the better brands .

We use Asda nuggets too and they seem to prefer them over other brands. I read somewhere that 0.4 calcium content is about right and Asda have 0.8. Is this a problem?

I use selective (get 3 for 2 when p@h have offer on) but also intersperse with Harringtons (from asda is cheapest) and excel with blackcurrant (have to order from local pet shop or p@h, they don't like the mint ... Fussy piggies!)
I get overwhelmed with different advice re pelmets so picked 3 relatively well recommended ones and alternate them.

I give my two 5 year olds a mixture of Pets at Home and Excel Oregano and blackcurrant as they were fed pellets before I got them in 2013.
I give my 1 year old Bunny guinea pig food only. I am hoping the Bunny diet is going to prove to be a healthier diet for him.
They all get plenty of Dust Free Hay and I through in Tesco hay occasionally as a change for them.
They also get a treat of Burgess Country Garden or Mountain Herbs now and then.

Used to feed them excel but there is a thread here about Asda nuggets which says they are almost the same ingredients and at £2 a bag it means I can spend the change on other lovely things for the boys like better hay etc. My boys eat them as they have no choice as I don't do the muesli thing as they would get really picky! :bal:

I give mine Burgess Excel, they cost me £19 for a 10kg sack, don't know if this is a good price, I also give the buns excel (bun version) they cost £18 for a 10kg sack. ;)

I use Pets At Home Nuggets (Mum refuses to let me get anything else as she gets the VIP discount) But my guinea pigs actually prefer nuggets bought from my local store! I get them on occasion when I'm running low and Mum can't get some for me, since I failed my driving test the other day...can't drive to Pets at Home myself. It's always seemed okay for my guineas!

We are using Bunny, from zoo plus, with a mixture of burgess as they are changing over to bunny fully.

I use JR Farm pellets from zooplus. I wanted to change over to Bunny but the boys love JR Farm...not sure!

I use vitakraft from zooplus. I was going to try bunny but to be honest a lot of people said that they're guinea pigs didnt like it, so went for vitakraft. Amber likes them, and its better than what she was on (mix of pets at home pellets and whag muesli). I only changed her over because of the calcium deposits. Otherwise that I probably wouldn't have, just cut out the muesli as its sugary and can cause selective eating.
Vitakraft smells yummy! I'd eat it if I was a guinea pig! It has red bits of beetroot in it :)

Your still in the process? I thought you started the change over ages ago.

Changing over too quickly can make the pigs ill. Especially if they aren't fully dependant on the new ones yet. ;)

I'm aware of that, I've been a member for long enough to know that.
How long has it been? 3 months maybe? bit extreme. They will probably never be dependant on bunny aslong as your giving them both though? They'll always eat there normal old nuggets, eventually you just have to be brave and stop giving the old ones.

Calm down calm down. ;)
