I have 2 female guinea pigs that are just under a year old. I had 2 separate hay racks in, but they had dominance issues with those, so i switched to hay piles, but those wasted a LOT of hay (we are on a pretty tight budget), so I tried hay sacks, but they kept climbing in them, so now we are on hay piles again, which hey seem to enjoy the most. Any suggestions for some cheap hay racks or easy DIYS that will sit in the middle of the cage, but wont wast so much hay? TYSM!

Maybe use racks ans piles under the racks? I use that and it isn't as much waste as piles.

I use seed trays lined with pee pads and newspaper and topped with hay, i change the pee pads and paper every day and take out the dampest hay and top up. Fully change every other day.
If you have a big cage a great alternative is a potting tray (they are quite large) lined as above. I have these in my indoor runs with a hay cube in them.
This is the link to the potting trays on Amazon. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B001IPY...t=&hvlocphy=9046626&hvtargid=pla-311639439761

If u have a big enough cage try a wooden magazine rack

I’ve tried various hay racks and they won’t eat from any of them. They are bedded on hay. All they want is hay piles on the cage floor that they can wee and poo on, then greederly hoover up😂 I buy a bale of meadow hay from the local farmer and it lasts for a couple of months so not really a problem as it only £4

I guess I'm lucky, dot will not poo much in her hay or wee. But burnie lets rip in his and still eats it. Thats like me eating a sunday roast from my toilet bowl haha

Same as @Bill & Ted and @Pigwhisperer. If i put it in a hay rack, they will not touch it. They want to run through, sit in, on, under and eat it all at the same time. They are in a hutch so are bedded on a lot of hay. I get a large bale of meadow hay from my local farm shop, it’s cheap and lasts a couple of months.

Same, mine are bedded on meadow, but on top of fleece . Pointless me using fleece really

Mine use their hay pans as their bathrooms, which works out fine because it cuts down 90% of cleaning time and water. There is less pee and poo on their fleece lining and fleece pee pads, which reduces the washing time and water. I do throw away soiled hay every other day but I don't mind it because I get fresh shipment of Katee hay every other week.

I prefer to throw away some soiled hay than to wash heavily soiled fleece linings and fleece pee pads.

I use hay trays and a magazine rack.
