piggy

Have just heard about 2 piggies near me who are looking for a new home. The owner no longer wants them and I would love to get them out of there. They are kept in a small cat carry case under a table right up against a radiator. I can't keep them myself but would be able to take them short term to try and find them another home. Both as far as I know are albino boars. Anyone in the West of Scotland interested? Let me know! I'm totally raging and want to go and get them NOW! Why do people keep animals if they can't or won't look after them properly?

I would be more than happy to take them/foster them but cannot offer them a permanent home. Where abouts West of Scotland? I'm more than happy to help get them out.

I'm about an hour away (just north of Stirling). There's also the possibility of a train to Thistle Cavies if they were able to accommodate the pigs?

Yeah thought about Thistle Cavies too, would happily drive through there no probs. Have decided I will take them just now and find them a home as soon as poss or take them to Thistles. My sister is going to see them tomorrow so I will tell her just to take them at least then I know they are safe. If you here of anyone who would take them could you please let me know. Thanks. Will let you know what happens.

Cant help sadly, but keep us updated on what happens to the little guys O0

Sad news. The person would not part with both piggies, her daughter said she wanted to keep one. What could I do? I can't force someone to give up their animal. They had been living together but the little girl picked the one she wanted and had basically tossed the other aside, the mother told my sister that the girl preferred rabbits but wouldn't give up the poor piggy. I mean, come on, whos the adult? I felt heart sorry for both of them. The one who had to be left behind in awful conditions and the one who has lost his friend. I have decided to keep the other piggy because I can't bring myself to put him (could be her haven't checked yet) through more upset, he's been through enough. He was brought home in the carry case that they were both living in and as you can imagine it is tiny. Can anyone tell me if Albino's are blind or have bad eyesight? He or she is pure white with lovely red eyes. Am heartbroken at the other being left behind on it's own but at least one of them is safe, will try to bond him with one of my other piggies.

I am so sorry for the one left behind :( I shan't comment on the irresponsibility of the mother :tickedoff: :tickedoff:

I have 2 Pink eyed white piggies & a himi with pink eyes & they're not blind, tho' they do shy away from bright sunlight.
I don't know if their eyesight is worse than any other piggy. :-\

Good luck with your new addition, he/she will now get the love, care & respect he/she deserves & fingers crossed the daughter lets the other piggy go :)

In pigs they're actually called pink eyed whites rather than albinos, something to do with pigmentation (they're actually just very dilute versions of other varieties) means that they aren't true albinos. Their eyesight is fine but, like Niki, I've found my piggy with pink eyes to be a bit more sensitive to light.

Sorry you couldn't get them both - you tried.

Exactly :tickedoff:

You tried your best. I really hope she's not eventually going to put the remaining piggy in with rabbits. Why would you keep just one?!

You did the right thing its so sad you couldnt take them both lets hope she re thinks and lets you take the other poor little thing :'( well done for keeping him too I dont think I could put the poor lad through any more heart ache bloody people :tickedoff:

Awwwwww, bloody parents like that drive me mad :tickedoff:

At least the piggy is going to have a fantastic life with you :smitten:

Have you booked a vet checkup?

Definately definately keep him/her quarentined for a good 3-4 weeks before allowing them anywhere near your existing piggies O0

Great effort love, maybe they might call you and relinquish the other poor piggie :-\ :-\
I'm sure that you'll have this piggie a healthy little one real soon :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Just to let you all know how my rescue piggy is. He or she, haven't looked yet, is remarkably healthy. He's a good weight, no sign of skin infections and is quite friendly although very, very skittish can't even go to loo during the night without a whirlwind of activity from the cage! ;D I thik the main reason for this, apart from different surroundings, is the fact that he's not used to seeing things moving around him. The stupidly small carry case he was in is totally enclosed so he wouldn't have been able to see much. I think now that the people who had him weren't being delibrately cruel they were being ignorant about the care of the animal. Anyway he's safe now and needs a name. Any ideas? Remember he's pure white with pink eyes. Wish I could put a photo on but I've tried on several occasions with pictures of Reggie and Gus with no luck.

Aw well at least you know one of them is going to have a great life, and if the little girl likes the guinea pig so much then she might pressure her mother into buying it aa bigger cage and start looking after it

Have you decided on a name yet? :smitten:
Well how is the little darling? :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
Being a rescue you could do a number of themes... good luck :)

How about ruby? Oh yeah his eyes are pink though.....this is a hard one

Okay the name has been chosen, blame my mum for this one! We were giving them their veg on Saturday morning and the wee one's jaws were going ninety to the dozen trying to wolf as much down as he could at the one time. My mum said 'He's a right wee Hungry Horace!' I nearly fell off the bed laughing! ;D ;D So I'm afraid Horace has stuck and it suits him, he is a Hungry Horace!
