What Do I Need When Bringing The Piggies Inside. . .

So I have managed to talk the hubby into bringing the piggies inside. This may sound like a really silly question but do i need different bedding etc. I know they need hay so that is the same. Do i need shavings or not x
 
I'm not sure what your current setup is, so it's hard to say what extra things you might need if any.

But my inside setup is as follows:
4x2 C&C cage. Fleece liner over the base of the whole cage. Fleece piddle pads under each of the houses.
Cat litter tray with a folded towel in it and hay piled in it.
2 small food bowls that they get their pellets in twice daily.
2 water bottles permanently attached.
Veg twice daily.
A tunnel or two.

And that's all.
Fleece is a nice bedding material indoors, but by no means the only option. Some people use wood shavings or auboise or any number of different things.
 
Thank you hunny. At the moment they have wood shavings. The hubby said that they are only aloud in if they don't smell and the 1at time they do they are in the garage. I know they will but if I can keep it down a little :-) how isn't a animal person x
 
I use fleece indoors too and I can't ever smell the piggies! I use a puppy pen with fleece liners and a pvc tablecloth underneath to protect the carpet! In their pen they have a cuddle cup double bed under the wooden fiddlestick bridge and then a water bottle, food bowl, hay Rack with litter tray underneath filled with a puppy pad/shavings/hay, 3 tunnels, 2 balls and 2 cuddle bag thingis!
 
I found my lot to be quite smelly indoors when I was using fleece but not as messy and smelly as when I was using wood shavings. At the moment mine live outdoors and I use aubiose which is like wood chippings. Smell wise I don't think the pigs get that bad now and it doesn't have the scent that fresh wood shavings do either so could be a good alternative
 
Do you have male or female piggies?
I have 2 females on fleece and they don't really smell at all. I have heard males can be smellier though, but generally it's worst straight after a cage clean when theyre marking their territory again. So it can be minimised by leaving some of the already marked stuff in the cage each time
 
I have 2 girls. We are looking at cages today so I'm hoping to get all sorted. What is the best lay out as in what do i use under the fleece etc x
 
If it's just plain fleece, not a bought liner, then you can use towels or puppy pads. If it's a premade liner you've bought you don't need anything extra underneath.
 
If I'm not using a premade fleece liner then I use a pvc table cloth, then towels, then fleece.
 
i havnt bought any fleece liners what are they? also if i got just normal fleece is it just a normal fleece bkanket? I'm soooo sorry for all the questions xx

Fleece liners are ready made fleece cage liners (look at ziggys piggies in Google or Facebook) that have been sewn together with an absorbant layer inside so you just lay the liner inside the cage and your done!

If your just using a fleece blanket then you will need to add some absorbency to soak up the pee(and something to protect carpet if applicable!) :tu:

I use Aubiose with puppy pads underneath and they don't smell at all. I keep asking people who visit too (in case i have just got used to it) and they assure me they can't smell them

If he's worried about smell, I'd say it's more likely the biggest smell will be the hay (and wood shavings if you used them)! For that reason, perhaps fleece might be a good idea, as for someone who isn't an animal person, it'll feel less like 'outdoor' animals coming inside (I think fleece looks nicer and cosier for indoor set ups).

You never know, having the girls inside might warm hubby to them more :)
 
I'm thinking about bringing fleece into my boys cage , at the moment they are on shavings which is messy and smelly ( even though I change the whole bed three / four times a week :hmm:) I can honestly say my boys smell worse than my girls ! Thank you for all the above advice !, I think I'll use puppy pads and fleece when the shavings run out :) x
 
At the moment they are on shavings just using them until they run out. I am loving having them inside :-) x
 
They are great to have inside , I love watching them snuggle down whenever I'm in their room lol x
