COVID-19 What do people think about the lockdown restrictions being eased?

My wife is a hlta in a primary school and she has asthma, and feels the same as you do.

She comes home with a bug or cough and cold probably 4 times a year already. Corona will 100% have a field day if schools open back up. If they do open back up soon, it's the government putting money before people's lives. Plain and simple
My mum is exactly the same (and a hlta), shes always got some kind of a cold. The minute she gets rid of one, another starts. No matter how careful the teaching staff can be, if the virus enters the school at all then it will spread everywhere. She went back to work for a day last week, 4 staff members to 6 children and it was pretty clear that it definitely wouldn’t work if everything went back to normal. It barely worked with 6 kids, even then if one of them was positive it could easily have spread. Let’s just hope they don’t announce for schools to reopen.

I know, but if only it was that easy to be continuously washing hands, in nursery this isn’t always possible as you’d be washing every 30 seconds. It’s not good for kids either who don’t fully understand, they share pencils and crayons, hold hands, touch faces. All it takes is for one person in the school to have it and it could run rife as TAs and HLTAs bounce from class to class. One child with one cough that everyone else somehow comes into contact with could be very serious if they are positive for the virus. Also, it’s not easy for teachers to be washing hands all the time, as the bottom line is that schools are understaffed which can mean 1 teacher in a classroom alone. Going to wash hands in a classroom sink (which are usually a bit out of the way) could lead to a lot of classroom disruption through lessons being stopped to wash hands and through rowdy kids who see an opportunity. There are also situations where some schools don’t have sinks directly in the classroom. I know hand sanitiser is an option, but to me it makes sense to postpone classes and look at starting again in January to repeat the last half of the year they’ve missed. I know things need to go back to normal in some ways, but schools are just a breeding ground for disaster
My husband is a preschool worker so I’m well aware! And I’m a healthcare worker. I washed my hands 11 times in about 8 minutes the other day. There needs to be wider thinking about some of these things. Sinks can be installed In classrooms. Either temporary or permanent. Consideration of whether staff bouncing from class to class is appropriate. Numbers of children in at any one time. The kind of toys available and appropriate cleaning regimes. We can’t wait until we can just carry on as it was before. We have to change. I’ve seen massive changes to healthcare provision that before Christmas we would have said were impossible to implement and wouldn’t work. Yet here we are having made these changes work. Its not been easy and the moving of goalposts makes your head spin but it’s happening.

I really hope they don't. It's a joke, they soon get inspected by offsted soon enough, but corona, doesn't seem to matter

The reason I am concernd is because my grandad is in a losing battle with corona right now. And I'm not going to lose my wife aswell, else there will be sheer hell to pay for whoever put her at risk.

Bless you. I hope your grandad pulls through and that your wife is safe. If I lost my mum that would be it for me, i half want to suggest her quitting work just to guarantee her safety even though that isn’t a feasible solution!

I am quite hesitant to go where there will be possibility of lots of people. Our town (well we're 3 miles away from it) isn't bad. I managed to pick up food from Chinese chippy a couple of times, or go to Morrisons for much needed items that were out of stock from our online delivery. At the moment it isn't crowded with people but I worry when the government start to ease the lockdown. I'm not that scared for myself since the town is just small but at the back of my mind, easing the lockdown may let people in our town think it's now okay to congregate, especially the young ones. I've already seen quite a few cars in town comparing from 2 weeks ago.

We are lucky that we live in a small village but a lot here are classed as vulnerable like my husband. But yesterday while coming back from the chippy, we passed one of our neighbours with their kids are having a chat with another family with kids thru their fences but not having any distancing measures. It was like 3 adults and around 6 (or more) kids all chatting by the fence.

Looks like I'm gong back to work then. How the hell I can social distance when I work as a 2 man crew, drivinf a van and lifting stuff?

Wont work for long. Death toll will go up I think. Or infection rate rather

Double crewed vehicles have been banned where I work, we're all out in single occupied patrol cars.

There was no clarity to that message tonight. So you can go on a road trip of any distance? So people will be heading to the beaches and beauty spots? Schools can hopefully start returning at start of June, but no mention of whether grandparents can see their grandchildren! Oh well, it looks like I may be able to go for a meal in a restaurant in July, as long as I go on my own and social distance from anyone else, but no chance of me spending any time with my family!

A friend told me that their friends who are married had been banned from travelling in the same van for work - postal workers....

We have officers who car share, they have to drive to the station in separate cars.

My mother finally got told to shield the other day until June 30th, took long enough for her to be considered vulnerable..so for the most part, nothing will change here, we will remain in isolation as much as possible which will be easier when her food deliveries and access to supermarket delivery slots become available.
It's way too soon for anything to be lifted, the expectation of things being lifted has caused a whole load of people to ignore the social distancing guidelines this week, coupled with the VE day celebrations, so the monitoring phase will see an increase of cases and everything will go back to how it has been with restricted exercise etc I expect. Very frustrating when we could just carry on as we are for a few more weeks for the numbers to go down even further.

I was sharing an office with my car share buddy. So we were driving in separately, spending hours in the office together, then driving home seperately. I’ve moved office now so she has to come and see me. I'm probably sat as close in her car as in my tiny office! Its frustrating.

I can't possibly do this. Gona be complicated. There would be no point doing it, if I'm going to site and will be touching the same tools as my work mate

Even more confused now than I was at 7.15pm after PMs speech. Facebook has gone crazy, lots of speculation on work chat about us reopening for more children on 1st June. It is not possible to social distance with 2 year olds (age I work with). It's impossible to hand wash constantly with them (tried it) half of them lick their hands as soon as dried hands! It wouldn't be possible to take any further resources away from them as they still lick, eat, chew, cough & slobber over every thing / everywhere. I will wait and see.

Boris seems to he trusting people again, worked so well last time!

Completely ridiculous. Never going to work and the infection rate will go up.
Advising people back to work and telling them to wear some PPE when there isn't even enough to supply care homes and hospitals. My daughter who works for the NHS, spent hours in her last shift 2days ago, ringing around trying to find masks for her ward as they were down to the last 2 in the box.

From what I can see it's what everyone's been doing anyway, except being able to travel to exercise. I'd love a nice country walk instead of round the roads of a housing estate but I can't see us being very welcome when we arrive at our destination, it also doesn't say what a reasonable distance to travel is? Other than not worrying about my spying neighbours telling on me if I go for a second walk I shan't be doing anything different than I've been doing.

does anyone have any idea about someone with a time machine or something? i want to skip a year or two please
