What do people think of guinea pig cages?

what is your exact question? What do we think about what kind of cages?

Many people have C&C - and while I feel bad I cannot offer my piggies that sort of space, I recently bought a truely massive "petshop" cage from zooplus - and all my piggies love it. It is perfect for me, offers my piggies lots of room to run around and therefore, I love it. It is much better for my needs than a C&C, which take up more space than I can afford (I stack piggies space upwards, as I still live with my parents and can offer a guinea pig room!

The one problem with petshop cages is that there are many out there that are far too small - shouldn't be sold at all, to be honest, and the good sizes at a good price involve epic online hunting! Petstores will sell cages that are far too small to people who do not know any better, which is very, very depressing.
 
I joined it and didnt think much of it to be honest and got alot of criticism over what you fed how your house the piggy's etc. I said that mine were in a nero 4 and were fed gerty and they all zoomed onto me saying i NEED to feed oxbow and have a c&c cage etc, basically they said i neglected my pigs because i didnt feed the expensive food. They also said you shouldn't do this or that and the people wasnt that friendly or nice either! I really didnt like the site, but that's just my opinion.

This forum is the best as people do not criticise you and not everyone can afford to fed expensive food or have a c&c cage, also you can only do your best and as long as your pigs are happy and healthy that's the main point. Also excellent advice is given on here and the other forum is based in the US.

But just to add i have decide to make a c&c cage for my boys, only by my choice as i would like them to have more room.

I do however like to look at the photos of the cages for ideas on the site and some of the information is useful to.

I totally agree with you. They told me that my guinea-pigs living in a shed means they are neglected, oh and apparently letting my cat go in the garden whenever he wants is neglect too. I think they have very strong opinions and don't want to listen to any other opinion and think it's wrong. They are so unfriendly, I think this forum is so much better.
 
I am a member on GPC too and although they can be very harsh there information on proper pig care is great!
No offence to anyone but i find the information there to be mostly the same not so many conflicting opinions and trouble getting the right way of doing things.
I dont think anyone should be bashing that forum as its great! remember we use the site attached to the forum for sexing GP's and there step by step instructions for building C&C cages too.
They are also 100% pro rescue and never support the buying from petshops or breeders which i also agree with.
I know that a few people arent happy with the site and the members may push C&C cages and good foods but the pigs really are better off for it.
My pigs have become so healthy and vibrant since being on oxbow cavy cuisine so i can see why it is pushed so much,they also recommend 2-3 other pellet foods so there are a few options.
If you dont like it dont go on there but there is not need to start a thread bashing another good pro rescue forum,how about all the breeding/bad info forums? i dont see anyone saying anything about them!
Also cats should be inside,i dont want to start a debate but they kill wildlife,get hit by cars,get in fights or get attacked by dogs,there are so many dangers.

In my opinion people seem to judge a little faster on that forum but I have learnt a lot and gotten many ideas from it. It seems to be more American than British and it just seems that different countries have different opinions on what is good for piggies in terms of living, eating and caring. I've noticed differences between Sweden and UK, that's for sure... I'm glad there is lots of information around!

Hi i agree but i just think some of the people can be realy patronising, ther is some good information, i agree.
 
I believe the discussion of other guinea pig forums is not allowed. I know there are no links here but the forum has been named and opinions expressed...which is where trouble can begin.
 
GuineaPigCages is an excellent resource for guinea pig owners and the people on that board are extremely experienced and know their stuff.

I'm quite disappointed that people here would happily slate another guinea pig forum so publicly when GPC has done so much to revolutionise how guinea pigs are kept to ensure their have a better quality of life, and to bring awareness to guinea pigs as companion animals and not just kids toys to be stuffed in a tank and played with when one can be bothered.

Part of life is to learn to take criticism as it's given and to consider it and do with it what you will without taking that criticism personally. Not to defame that source because you didn't like what you heard.

Well said! if you don't like it don't go there! I have never been but think i will have a gander at some point....
