I might go on a trip in a month and I'm worried sick about my piggie.
What should I do? I can leave my 7month old female piggie (Virginia "Ginnie" Woolf) with my BF but i would still be very worried because as responsible as he is, he has never taken care of her and lives in a small town with no exotic vet in case of emergencies (I live in the capital and managed to find ONE vet with an actual exotic-pets degree) my other option is leaving her with a vet (one of these pet hotels) but they don't seem that promising...i checked some websites and they only have pictures of cats and dogs being held (in TINY cages, poor things) and I know if I call them they would claim they accept piggies but they may well lack the decent environment for guinea pigs. (What if they put my poor baby next to a dog that barks all the time? Or just any dog...or a cat that stares at her all the time...oh the horror!)
What should I do? 8...
If I end up leaving her with BF, what are some things he MUST know beside the basic feeding/cleaning tips?
The vacation will be 4-7 days...am I better off not going at all? (i will have to spend the Persian new year alone if I dont go :( )

P.s. i got confused with the forum sections, I'm SO SORRY if this not the right place for this question

I leave mine with my parents but i have just set up a small animal boarding business specialising in Chinchilla, Degus and Guinea pigs maybe there is somewhere near you that just specialises in small animals rather then mixed species. I think your BF will be fine as long as he is responsible and sticks to what you tell him he can't go far wrong, lots of fresh hay each day, veggies and food and he just needs to give her attention and give her a little clean out :)

I have generally left mine either with my parents (who are pretty knowledgeable with small animals) or with my best friend (who is less knowledgeable but willing to learn- she even managed to get antibiotics into one of my pigs the last time she piggy-sat for me!) I'm thinking if you write down the list of instructions (what to feed, how much, etc.) and leave him a number to reach you and a number for the vet just in case, it will be okay. I'll be going on vacation with my family this summer and my parents are taking the pigs for me- I'll leave them with all the food and meds for my one pig who may need them, as well as the phone number for the vet, and I will check in via e-mail while I'm gone. I'm sure your friend will do fine while you're away!
