they look well cute but i bet you need to do a lot of grooming with oil

I think theyre adorable! You would also have to make sure they dont get too cold hey...

I think they are cute but tbh i think they look weird too. :-\

i have never been next to one or anything i really want to have a look at them now lol!

;D I want one! Not sure where to get them though.. in Australia... petshops dont have them and I'm sure none would be at the RSPCA... theyre so cute...you could maethem little t-shirts to keep them warm ;D

What would happen if a skiny ig and a normal pig made babies ? weird! lol

I'm not overly keen on the skinnypigs :(

I prefere the guinea pigs that are full of fluff ^_^ I don't like the idea of stroking a skinnypig as they don't have any hair lol

I think it is unnatural, and cruel. (sorry)

animals have fur for a reason, to protect their skin from all sorts of things, scratches, heat/cold, drying out, ... to rob an animal of that natural protection through breeding, is wrong in my opinion.

Of course they might look "cute" - I just think it is selfish to do this just because you prefer "the look of it".

To me its in the same league with debarking dogs, declawing cats, dying an animals hair (everyone was saying "oh no!" in a thread in this forum when they talked about bleaching to keep a guineas fur white around the bottom - yet robbing an animal of said fur is alright?). Its making an animal permanently unnatural.

Just my opinion, I understand that some people on here really like them, well, I dont, not because it looks "ugly", but because I feel so sorry for those animals.

It's not for me, but i know people who absolutely adore them, but they do have a lot of problems and should only be kept as indoor piggies.
As i say, everybody to their own :)

thats exactly what I mean though - someone says "well I like them that much, I am willing to take the fact that they have alot of skin problems.." I wish it would be possible to ask the piggy what it thinks.

If it is willing to take all these problems to look prettier for us..

It reminds me of these cats with the flat faces, that have been bred that way to look "good" and now have massive breathing problems.

The things we do to animals because we think its pretty or "fashionable"... :'(

They are like hippos, yes, but they are not for me unfortunately. I must admit I was shocked when I first saw a photo of one :o and I still don't really agree breeding with breeding of them to be honest as they can't cope with heat like normal cavies, etc.

Skinnypigs aren't for me, I can't help but feel sorry for them when they probably have a wonderful life!

Stick to the hairy ones I say :D ;D

Skinnypigs are unnatural and like others have said mutating (yes it's not a change it's a mutation) an animal so it does not have fur is cruel. Guinea pigs have fur for a reason and in my mind it should stay that way.

People might look at it as only fur but it does cause health problems (such as skin cancer and respitory infections) and is awful for the guinea pig when it scratches. I understand people who have skinnypigs as pets take a lot of time to oil and bath them and keep them at the right temperature and not in the sun but it's not always enough.

I don't agree with the breeeding of them, will never get one myself and think they are ugly. Not cute, it's ugly to deprive an animal of it's right to a normal life.

Completely agree with this. Many a breeder argues that they are being bred with furries to make them stronger but they are still horribly inbred and the problems they have including skin cancer, heart problems, immune problems and absorbtion issues are all limited to skinnies. Says a lot, really. Sadly due to amateurs getting their hands on skinnies and skinny gene carriers, it won't be long before people's pigs are unexpectedly popping out hairless babies and they hit rescues.

I am not for breeding animals to get specific phenotypes, either. That kind of selecting is not natural. Mongrel or pure breed, animals are beautiful. If there is no demand for skinny pigs, breeders stop breed skinny pigs. I think we should not encourage breeders to breed "special pigs".

I'm not one to judge an animal on its appearance but to be honest I'm not overly keen on Skinnypigs :-\
