Of this email I have sent to Pet@home? I feel I have to write to them they need to no what they are putting the poor animals though! :tickedoff:
And feedback would be fab xx

To whom ever it may concern,

I have had to write and phone you a few time's now about the same situation which may be noted already. I puchased 2 SOW guinea pig's the first week in febuary at your Coventry store and after a day of them together knew something was very wong. Had them sexed at the vets to be safe and it appeared one was in fact a boar!
Anyway I had him nuetured which you paid for which I was very grateful. They both also had mites which I sorted, then I discovered Pippin was Pregnant. I came to you then and your store supplied me with a cage they used, which was so dirty i could use anyway! The feeding bottle they gave me had bright green gunk in it as well, is there any wonder why the pet's you sell are ill! I have been suppling her with all the veggies i can, the best hay I can get, the lot until she became overdue and developed a bad limp. I rushed her to the vet's who x-rayed her to discover as she was so young her pelvis was to small and the 3 babies wee all stuck. She had to under go an emergency c-section. This is major sugery and as you may know is very expensive! As she was so poorly I had to take the weekend of work and hand feed the babies every 2 hour's with a special milk, even thoughout the night.
I am witing to you because if I phoned I wouldn't get out everything I want to. I bought 2 guinea pig's to be family pet's I have now got 5 which are requiring a lot of need which I will give them but it is very hard as I have 2 small children as well. I am so emotional at the moment this is really taking it out of me Pippin is now feeding the babies a bit so easing but I feel you need to no that by not having trained staff in your store you are messing with ppl's live's. I was taking the kid's away next weekend which I now can't do as i have had to pay out £135 at the vet's followed by lactol, new bed's, pellets, veggies ect. And this is all due to your staffs incompitance.
Even your managers are not well informed as I was told by one in the coventry store guineas ae only pregnant for 30 day's!
I would appretiate a phone call after you have read this not a reply. I am sick of going to the store to be grumbled at and the way I feel I doubt they would want me there anyway. The staff there have risked my Guinea pig's life and her babies which in my opinion she was far to young to have. I would like some kind of help from you about this situation as none of this is down to me yet I'm the one sorting it out, you have a duty to these animals.

i totally agree with tht sian they are really stupid they have no training and by the sounds of it are very stupid by not knowing the gestation times and sexes between females and males.
Great letter

EXTREMELY PROUD of you love :smitten: :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:
You said this straight from your heart :smitten: :smitten:
You've been straight to the point, given them the reasons and examples... OMG surely they'll listen :-\ :-\
I hope you get an answer and if you don't we'll flood them, that store in particular with an overload of messages if you like >:D

yeah I will spell check it my keyboad is playing up so some letter's aren't working properly xx

I Agree with Sokel, but apart from that i think it is a good letter, i just hope you get somewhere with it.

I Think what you and the guineas have gone through is terrible, if they had gone to someone who unlike you didnt care, i dread to think what would have happened. Also i feel that being able to sex an animal is the basics of selling them. When ever i have purchased an animal from a pet shop whether it be a rabbit or hamster, i have stared to insist they let me sex it, because i have heard so many stories and experienced these problems myself. Years ago i was sold a rabbit as a male, who infact turned out to be a pregnant Doe.

Anyway Good luck and i hope you get an answer, would it be worth involving some sort of rspca group, maybe to add some pressure to them if you dont get any success? I have to say most of the staff in my Local P@H are quite good, however you do get the Saturday people who havent got a clue.

I'm gobsmacked about this, through it shouldnt really surprise me, I know that it shouldnt be about money, but i would seriouisly consider compensation for this,You can also invest in some piggies gifts with it! Did they let you keep the dirty cage? and did you get chance to take photos, as evidence is always good. How abot wri1ening to a local newspaper? Exposure is often a good thing, may stop it from happening again.

On the postive side Good for you for putting so much time, effort and money into yor piggies, alot of people would not have bothered, at least there are some good people out there who do actually care. xx

A friend of mine bought two females from them about 1 1/2 years ago and after a few weeks it became apparent that both were pregnant - they must have had a boar, not correctly sexed, with the girls. They had a bad time wiht the two girls, as both had of course been through trauma of moving, been ahndled a lot,and were very young - ALl babies were stillborn ! Good luck with your mission.

Hi Sian, Hope you don't mind I've spell checked and made some minor adjustments with your puter playing up. I had a funny keyboard the other day as well. Was driving me crazy! ;D Looks good, let us know how you get on!

To whom it may concern,

I have had to write and phone you a few times now about the same situation which may be noted already. I purchased two sow (female) guinea pigs the first week in February at your Coventry store and after a day of them together knew something was very wrong. I had them sexed at the vets to be safe and it appeared one was in fact a boar (male!)

I had him neutered which you paid for and I was very grateful. Both guinea pigs also had mites which I treated them for and then I discovered Pippin was Pregnant. I contacted you and your store supplied me with a cage which had been used and was so dirty! The feeding bottle they gave me had bright green mould in it also, is there any wonder why the animals you sell are often riddled with illness!

I have been supplying my female guinea pig with all the vegetables I can and the best hay I can get until she became overdue with her pups and developed a bad limp. I rushed her to the vets who x-rayed her to discover as she was so young her pelvis was to small and the three babies were stuck. She had to under go an emergency c-section. This is major surgery and as you may know is very expensive! As she was so poorly I had to take the weekend of work and hand feed the babies every 2 hour's with a special milk, even throughout the night.

If you dont get a reply from the letter could you get a phone nmber and insist they ring you back, i surpose the people who work in the store, dont really have any sort of authority, however they seem to have incompetence!

I think its a good letter, use Louise's version as she has corrected the spelling mistakes etc O0 saves you using the spell check. Really hope you get somewhere with it, I always send a letter to complain, means I can get everything I want to say down! Keep a copy of your letter as well as proof :)

Well done on writing the letter and good luck with it.

My local P@H is really good - so whoever's managing that store is doing a really good job. Never had to complain to them so not sure what they're procedure is like for that. All I can say though is all the animals are well looked after (from what I've seen when I'm in) - they always have dry food, hay, water (that they can reach) and fresh fruit and veg. The advice I was given when I picked up my girls has proven to be all correct - the girl was really good and knowledgeable.

My OH has just said if they don't get in touch with me in a few days one of us should email watchdog about it, as I bet were not the only people who this has happened to. :smiley6600:

well done for writing the email, Pets at home are really bad when it comes to animal care, the store near me have only just separated their piggies and rabbits from each other!
Their staff are terrible at sexing the animals. Big hugs to your poor piggie pippen. The staff should be given some kind of training, its so important to sex the animals right, i got a rabbit from one of their stores last year, i was wanting a female as i had had a male before and he died during an operation to be neutered and i didnt want to go through that again. One night a few months after i got the rabbit i had to give it a bath after it got a bit of diarrhoea, it was then i discovered it was very much a boy bunny!

Well got a phone call yesterday saying I needed to fax my vets bill to them, which I done. They also said they have repoted the store to the area pets safety manager who will be there this week to check everything. They said it was a serious complaint I was making and will take them a couple of weeks to sort out. They have just rang again now to say they now would like a detailed report from my vet ::) She is off today but the receptionist said she will get her to write one tomorrow off both her and Tuckers Health history and they will fax it straight to there head office. I have just got the cage out and have took pictures of what they gave me as well. Wish I took them before I bleached it and scrubbed it but tbh still looks awful, but should give them some indication as to how bad it was. :tickedoff:
