I took my guinea pig to the vet on Monday as on Sunday I had noticed he was missing some hair on the side of his face between his eye and nose. Totally freaked out and took him to the vet (despite having JUST gone to the vet on Saturday and he was showing no signs of any skin problems).
The vet wasn’t 100% sure what it was at that stage and prescribed surolan to be applied twice daily which I have been doing. We’ve only had them for just under a fortnight so they’re not used to being handled so applying the surolan makes me feel awful as he’s absolutely petrified.
Anyway, the patch on his skin has gone to quite pink and sore looking (I think there was a little bleedy bit) to white and grey and I thought it might be fungal? If it is, does anyone know what it looks like when its healing? I will be taking him back to the vet again for further tests if isn’t gone in a little while but my neurosis may get the better of me by then :)

I didn't get a response to my post so I thought maybe I should post pictures and maybe someone could offer some advice then? Since my last post, the bald patch has gotten a little bigger but isn't looking sore.

And this one was taken today (veggies was the only way to stop him getting upset)
Sorry for the blurry picture. In the second picture we had already applied the surolan so it looks a bit wet. The hair loss is clean, like a crop circle but it doesn't look inflamed or anything.
I WILL be taking him back to the vet once I have finished the course of treatment btw but I just want to hear opinions from the forum.

No experience with this I'm afraid but am bumping it up for you

When fungal is healing the effected hair follicles will fall out and cause the area to get bigger and bald. Usually it wont make the skin red and sore. I'm not sure if Surolan is the right thing for this, but i cant see the lesion very well. Hopefully your vet will be able to advise better.

x.

Hi just to let you know I visited the vet today she has mentioned that it looks like it's getting better. I think she pretty much said everything Abi_Nurse said word for word about the follicles.
