When I hold and stroke my new guinea pig she makes a very quiet almost squeaky sound when i touch her that sometimes is accompanied by a purr here and there if i pet her in a certain spot. Her eyes seem very mellow and start to close like she is going to sleep or it just very relaxed so I know this isn't a scared sound but is it a happy sound? Is she liking being in my lap and having me pet her? Or does this sound mean something else?

my rex does the happy sound, I originally thought she was uncomfortable with me and being handled but I found out that she is just telling me all about her day and is a happy little girl. The only other pig that makes a lot of noise is fudge who almost screams with disgust of being held, I know I am not hurting her or that she is in distress, she is just a spoilt little madam :))

I have a rex called Fudge too!

Fudge is my short haired, called her that due to her being milk choc coloured, with white and a flash of ginger on her cheek and reminded me of the fudge bar. My rex is a dark eyed white called crystal as she has the most beautiful blue/purple coloured eyes, which crystals often have beautiful veins of colours through them.

Guinea Pig sounds

Oh yes....that's the same as a purrrrrrrrring cat. The kicker for me is when I rustle a bag for any reason and they do the insane hunger sound..I have to make sure I don't move any bags around them. By the way I have to male PURPLE tinted Peruvian Guinea Pigs. How common is that?
