My guinea pig has been making this noise on and off for a few months. I went to the vets the other day and the lady said because it is not constant and she wasn’t doing it then so couldn’t hear anything on her chest, it is probably the dust from the hay.

But it sounds like a respiratory infection to me but the noise isn’t constant. One of my other pigs also has this crackily chest but hers isn’t as loud or constant either.

She’s eating and drinking fine, she squeaks but when she tries to wheek, she sounds breathless like she can’t make the noise out. I’ve been to several vets and they all seem to be pretty useless on Guinea pigs.

Welcome to the forum.
Sorry I can’t help with the noise.
One of the forum health experts will be able to give you better advice.

It’s good that you’ve been to the vet but if you’re not happy with them then have a look at the recommended vet list at the top of the forum to see if there’s one near you.

You could also ask on the forum if you’re comfortable putting your county on, there may be someone in the same area who knows a good piggy vet.

As she aged my Merab lost her voice and her wheeks sounded more like a loud whisper.
There was nothing wrong - she just didn’t have a voice anymore.

Same with a senior girl of mine. She sometimes wheeked and no sound came out at all! Especially when she was complaining e.g. that one of her friends was sitting in the way and that kind of thing. Physical deterioration - she had temporarily lost her voice. That was probably old Suzie.

My piggy, Polo has been making similar noises for ages. Also initially no clear indication of where the problem lies. I took him in on Monday and he sounds generally fine, but I opted to start a trial of meds, antibiotic and metacam anti inflammatory as well as nebulisation. I would say the sounds have improved a lot, although it is early on still. It might be worth asking if you can try meds to see if it improves. In Polo it was going on for a few hours and sounding a tiny bit phlegmy at times. I hope your piggy can be helped 🙏❤️
