As some of you know my 7year old piggie went to the vets and had an op for spurs on his teeth, my brave little boy got through all that. A week later I was still syringe feeding him and took him for a check up. The vet found Boris has actually lost weight. He has had an X ray as the vet felt there was something else wrong other than Boris's teeth, he wasn't chewing at all, his jaw was ok, no root problems. 3 days later he has lost more weight! The vet believes Boris has something where they can not help with apart from pain relief if needed…
Yesterday Boris had runny bottom, I telephoned vet immediately and she told me to be guarded as piggies can go down hill fast and to make his food thicker which I have done. He bounced back as much as he is able. Now today I am in same position, he has a runny bottom again, now I am caught between him getting dehydrated or giving too much water.
I am feeding him recovery food every 4 hours aprox 10-20ml total a day and he has eaten grass….

He is not happy at all and is just sat in the corner, he loves a cuddle but I feel helpless…

Please someone help me help my beloved little boy, he's my baby!

Have you checked out the vet locator on the top of the forum ? is the vet you have been using guinea savvy ? all this can make a difference and you may be better looking for a guinea savvy vet asap as your piggie sounds rather unwell. Was you r piggies eating fine before he had his teeth done ?

I am tagging @furryfriends Excellent Adventure Sanctuary who runs a dental sanctuary in Northampton and works closely with Simon Maddock who is regarded as the best piggy vet for dental issues (and other issues). Are you able to get to Northampton at all?

As for the runny bottom, I recommend giving Dioralyte as his fluids as this should help keep him hydrated and replace any lost electrolytes. I know you are hand feeding already but this may help too

I am also not sure about the grass as it may increase the runny poos, I would feed hay only at the moment with the recovery food. I know it is a fine line between what he should eat and what he can eat though.

Where about's in Lincolnshire are you? Will have a search for a cavy savy vet for you?

No Boris was off his food for a few days and was always drooling before his op, he still is drooling.

I won't give anymore grass and see. I am up Lincolnshire so a long way from Northampton. One of the vets in the practice is up on piggies but no specialist. I will get Dioralyte too.

If you wanted to get to Simon but had no transport there is the possibility of a piggy train being arranged, if you are on Facebook have a look at The Piggy Train. I would link but am on work pc and it blocks Facebook.

I don't do face book, but I have just looked at vet locator and there is one about 90mins away. I will try tomorrow morning.

I just realised I am not saying Thank you for all your replies.. Sorry THANK YOU X

My Boris is asleep now. I had 7 years of my baby boy and I am heart broken. The vet said it was time and to let him go.
