Junior Guinea Pig
Hi
I have three young female guinea pigs (13 weeks) and since joining this group and reading around on the links sometimes posted, I have started to realise that I do not know as much as I thought I did about guinea pig care. I have had guinea pigs from babies before and fed them pretty much the same hay/dry food/fresh food that I fed the adults.
But, since reading around I have noticed that there is special dried food for young guinea pigs, and noticed mention of feeding certain hay types to under 6 month olds only.
I have been feeding unlimited gerty guinea pig (have just read reviews saying this is bad) which they have been eating like the clappers since they arrived, unlimited hay (green long standed bought locally), have also added 'Sun Seed autumn harvest sweet grass premium timothy hay' in the hayrack for variety. They get fresh vedgies twice a day which includes a selection from dark green vedge, dark green rommaine lettuce, carrots, brocolli, baby sweetcorn, tomato, cucumber, limited fruit from grapes, blueberries, apple, melon, strawberry.
My question is, should I be feeding them anything extra/different as they are young? Should I switch them to one of these junior guinea pig pellets like the oxbow? Should I be giving them other hays like Alfalfa to help them build strong bones etc?
Any advice would be gratefully received
