Do not worry, cavies adore dandelions. However, each foodstuff should be introduced slowly and fed in moderation, and as part of a balanced and varied diet. Cavies cannot produced their own vitamin C. Therefore, cavies need to consume foods with a moderate vitamin C content.

The list below should be of some help (it is the 'sticky' above your thread):

However, 'If in doubt, leave it out' - or ask the forum's members! :)

HI! Welcome to the forum!

The best you can feed your guinea pigs is LOTS of hay - at least half their diet if not more should be hay. Grass counts the same as hay, but they should have accesst to dry food every day, or their bellies will go very rumply and their poo very soft!

Feed them a mixture of vegetables every day - 1cupful/50g per piggies per day in one or more meals. If they haven't had veg before, please only introduce one veg at a time and repeat it if they do not eat a particular veg - a bit like getting children to eat healthy greens! You can feed dandelion, best in a mix of veg; and you have to make sure that is has not been peed on by dogs, as dog pee is poisonous for guinea pigs.

Here are tips for a balanced diet and a list of which vegetables they can eat.

For pellets, please have a look at the threads at the top of the food section.

You may find our reference section rather useful, as we have there are collection of threads that answer the most frequently asked questions.

Best of luck with settling your boys. Please do not hesitate to ask questions or snoop around the forum. At the top of each section, we have informative permanent threads.

Hiya, lots of good advice above. Apples are fine in small chunks in moderation. My piggies favourite is the core with pips and stalk. They go mad when they hear me eating an apple until a give them the core to finish off. Problem is which ones to give it too. lol xx
