Wondering if anyone can shed a little bit of light on why my piggie suddenly died. We fed him in the morning and he seemed his normal happy self, we came home from work to find him dead in the hutch. He's had ringworm on his foot for quite a while now but it was being treated, other than that he seemed a healthy happy little chap.

Anyone have any ideas at all what could have happened to our baby boy?

Thanks in advance

Sorry you have lost your little piggle. It's very difficult to tell sometimes what has happened to them. At the age of three and a half I lost my Daisy suddenly like this. She went to sleep in the sunshine in the doorway of the hutch as she often did and an two hours later my OHs mum looked and saw she was still in the same place. She had died in her sleep perhaps from a stroke or a heart attack we just will not know. Unfortunately it does happen sometimes that they just fall asleep and don't wake up. It is the most peaceful way to go, during your afternoon snooze. Take some comfort from that.

Thank you very much. We're so sad to have lost him. He was only young - maybe about 18 months. Sorry to hear about your loss. Hopefully fluffy went in his sleep. I'm sure my nan is looking after him in heaven for us

Perhaps you would like to write a little tribute to him in the rainbow bridge section. It is such a shame to loose them young.

I'm sorry for your loss Hannah. Piggies are very good at hiding illnesses and we are usually the last to know. That said, sometimes there are just unexplainable things that happen like strokes and heart attacks - so please do not feel bad. I am sure Fluffy is popcorning in the fields full of hay. Rest in Peace x

I am so sorry you lost your piggie. I lost my last one in a similar way. He was about 5, had been under the vet. I put him in his run and he was munching a bit of grass. I cleaned his cage out as we were going shopping. Went to fetch him in and he came over to me, I picked him up and gave him a cuddle. Told him to be a good boy, and put him in his nice clean cage. He laid down in his usual place. When we came home he had slipped away. Gosh I hope I go like that!
