What type of hay do you get? Where do you get it? Do you get it by the bag, bulk, or bale? Do you get it from the petstore or farm? I have been wondering what hay do most people get on this forum. Answer the questions above and I will keep track of what hay people get. Please review the hay too. I am tired of looking for good hay.

we get hay for pets hay online.. soft meadow hay and timothy and rye hay. both are excellent quality and the bunnies and piggies love them. you get alot for your money and the people who run the business are lovely. :)

I buy from Morrison's at 99p a kg its by far the cheapest hay I have coke across, sites like hay for pets are expensive IMHO. Farmers huge bails are cheap if you don't mind the possibility of mice on there or if you have a shed to store it

I get a bale of really lovely Timothy hay from a local Farm Shop,It lasts ages so it's great value for money.

We buy bags of local hay from our local pet shop...it's great quality and guilt free, and most importantly the pigs adore it! Not very helpful for anyone else though, sorry).

I buy Alfalfa King Timothy Hay from Pets at Home it is quite pricey at £7.99 for a 1.8 kg bag but my 2 piggies adore it! As there is only 2 of them it lasts a good while! I find that when I had to give them meadow hay for a while because they wasn't used to it Burt refused to eat it for a couple of days but as soon as I put this hay back in they were really super happy! I would definitely recommend it! Especially as it is very green and smells quite good too! Excellent quality and it has very long strands which wears down their back molars too! I <3 this product and so do my piggies!

I get my hay shipped from a farm that isn't local. Are there supposed to be leaves in the hay? Maybe it is because I used to buying bags.

I buy this. Been buying it for years and my piggies love it. Cheap in ASDA which is a 10 minute walk from the house too.
I don't buy from P@H because their bags are like half the size for twice the price.

Right now I buy my Timothy Hay from Oxbow on-line but it's very expensive in the UK so I'm thinking of switching to Hay for Pets which is from a farm a lot cheaper and apparently better quality.

I buy ox-bow timothy and Fab meadow hay.

The ox bow is quite pricey but for only two they don't get through much. Its in a ball dso they don't pee on it and get wasted.

The Fab meadow hay is lovely and soft, I use it for them to burrow in. Hardly any dust, smells fresh. I have only just started using this because the hay I was using from the local pet shop suddenly had loads of thistles and twigs in. Its also a reasonable price. £5 something for a whacking great big bag that will last my piggies at least two weeks if not more!

I buy from either Wilko's or my local pet shop, both are a good price and the hay is decent quality. I mix it with one of the Burgess Fresh Forage products- my boys love the chammolie one.

I purchase all types of hay and it's really interesting how I think some hay looks and smells awful but the piggies love it :{

I buy the special hay from hay for pets and zoo plus to mix in with the normal hay but I do buy meadow hay by the bale - some is good (in my opinion!) and some it bad (in my opinion but not the piggies :)))

I think they just love a change, although I got a lovely bale of meadow hay from the local feed merchants today and they all went bonkers for it. Having 5 piggies of my own, plus boarding one and boarding rabbits, a bale lasts about 2 weeks so I couldn't afford to feed exclusively posh stuff and I do give it liberally twice per day.

Does anyone else think 'Hay for Pets' is expensive? Its £9 for 1.8kg. In P@H they do a Timothy Hay for about £7-8 for the same amount - that is quite good hay, nice and green. It is a bit cheaper and local as opposed to ordering it online. I used to think my piggies were picky and choosy on what bits and strands of this Timothy Hay they would eat, but I think they are like it with all hay lol fussy .

I think hayforpets comes into its own if you want to buy in bulk (£16 for 9.5kg), the price per kilo comes down a lot and is cheaper than the Alfala King timothy hay (£7.99 for 1.8kg) from p@h, and also the smallpet bedding hay from tescos which is £1.99 for 750g. Nowhere near that Morrisons price though, if only we had a Morrissons near us...

I agree though that the alfala timothy hay from p@h is very green, my hayforpets timothy and rye was nowhere near that green and was much stalkier. However the pigs are now loving burrowing under it etc so who knows!

Perhaps they do like a change once they get used to it :)

I get hay from The Dust Free Hay Company - 10 bags of the soft hay is around £40 inc shipping. They're very fast with delivery too - if you order online before 3pm you normally get it the next day.

I have also got hay from the Hay Experts as a treat for my gang. A large box of their Orchard grass is to die for but it's expensive around £50 for 25lb but it does last for ages and the more you buy, the cheaper it gets. Happy days!

For the largest bag it is HALF the price of the same amount of timothy hay from p@h

I have just stopped buying from Pets at home as I was in Pets Corner the other day and saw some much greener looking hay. I don't think the P@H hay is very good - so dry and brown and my guineas were overjoyed when I topped up the hay rack with the Pets Corner hay. It's quite funny - at the bottom of the hay rack is a big clump of brown hay that they ignore and at the top is green hay that they are devouring. @):(|)
