Timothy Hay is very popular.

I feed mine dust free meadow hay, usually get a big bale from jolleys or the range, the piggies love it.

At the moment mine love Alfalfa King Timothy hay from Pets at Home (even though I hate going in there) it is Timothy hay, not alfalfa.

They also love Oxbow Western Timothy hay. Both these hays are imported from the US & are sterile because of EU regulations, so there is little chance of my piggies getting static hay lice from them. They love both these hays & there is never any waste. I have bought pet shop hay in the past but have ended up either throwing it out because it's full of thistles or my pigs getting static lice from it.

The US Timothy hay is more expensive, but the A. King Timothy is £8 a bag which lasts my three piggies 3 weeks & that's giving them it unlimited every day.

My piggies love Alfalfa King Timothy hay as well, it's so green and stalky. I also love the fact that it is sterile as I'm slightly neurotic about them contracting nasties from the hay :)) I have been looking at other hays and am impressed by Oxbow though it can prove extremely expensive unless you buy in bulk, 0.5Kg bags can cost over £7.00 and my lot would wolf it down in seconds! The dust free hay company also do western timothy hay that looks on a par with oxbow. Quite a few piggy owners I know buy a large bale of farm meadow hay; though I unfortunately have nowhere to store such a large amount - it is however a lot cheaper as you can buy a bale for less than £6.00 in some places. :)

Alfalfa King from P@H. My pigs love it, and I like it because it smells so good. I like the fact that it's fresh and green rather than limp and brown.

My lot get, and love, Oxbow meadow hay, (and other varities). Excel herbage and forage (this is timothy hay based), readigrass and Science selective meadow hay for bedding. I'd recommend all of these, they are great quality.

Ive also ordered some samples from hay for pets to see if its any good and if the piggie like it.

The Ings hay sample was a hit with my lot so ordered the 9k bale - thankfully, they like it. Paid £16 for it, free delivery and it arrived in around 5 days :)

I get a big bag of meadow hay from the range and sometimes titmuss in wheathampstead. Tho my big 9.7kg bag of meadow hay has just arrived from hay for pets and it looks lovely!

H4P Meadow Hay is a winner with my three, they go absolutely nuts when they hear/smell the bag being opened. I also give them DustFreeHay Americal Timothy which is lovely but they don't eat it as much (perhaps because it's in a treat ball and they are lazy!?)

I got a small bag of INGS too which they will eat but they prefer the meadow hay.

All in all, H4P are brill, I had the pleasure of meeting Graham and Anne at the Burgess Small Animal show and they were lovely people, and remembered where I was from when I told them my name. What brill customer service that is :))

I currently buy Wilkinsons Meadow Hay and they all love it, hoping to order massive bags from Hay for pets when I get my own place and have storage for it

I mostly use a good quality meadow hay, usually pillow wad. It should smell sweet, not musty, and should be low in dust.

The chinchillas get a range of Oxbow hays, as they are picky eaters and this tempts them to eat more and so wearbheir teeth oroperly Sometimes the piggies get some of these for a treat, but it is too expensive for everyday and they like the meadow hay just as well.

I've always found the hays from thehayexperts.co.uk very good as well.

Have you used the Pure Pastures Hay?

Or has anyone else?

I've used P@H and Tesco's own brand in the past, but finding it's not very nice and the latter is quite dusty. Saw the Pure Pastures on the hayexperts website and thought about buying it.

My lot love Oxbow Orchard grass

But at the moment also have Tesco Hay which they seem to enjoy too. Willow even still popcorns when she sees it coming!

I love how tesco value hay is actually more expensive than wilkinsons so its not really value at all :-( but its nicer and the pigs got mental for it!

I think burgess hay is the best my pigs go mad for the herbage one :)

I really like Tescos Value Meadow Hay at the moment, last couple of bags have been really green and long, it smells really lovely! Roughly 2.99 for a large bag

I nick some from the sheep's stash 6)

We buy good quality farm hay, £4.50 a bale at the moment, and the piggies can't get enough of it!

I had the three samples for £3 from hay for pets and ours absolutely loved the Timothy and Rye hay so ive ordered a 1.8kg bag-hope it arrives soon.:)

Mine have natures own meadow hay and a handful of Timothy hay daily, mine seem happy with this arrangement :)

My lot get bog standard farm hay - and love the stuff. I buy by the bale as I have lots of little mouths to feed but it's good stuff for the price (about £4.50 for a 10+kg bale). It's basically just horse meadow hay. :)

I used to get the excel stuff, but when you've got enough piggies to eat one bag a day, it's just not worth it!

My pigs have started to waste more than they eat, they won't touch the stalk only eat the buds...soooo much is being wasted:{

If you have a lot of pigs, you could try a pallet of Natures Own Devon Meadow Hay

Shop price £4-5 per 4k bag . But a full pallet from the link below (phone them direct) , it works out at around £2.25p a bag , that's £125 for a full pallet 56 large 4k bags , that includes shipping

If you are looking at a 2 string bale 15-25k (depending on how "dry" it is) then Natures Own works out to just under twice the price ,

But the pallet l got in January was very good quality, far better than any 2 stringer ! and l ordered another pallet yesterday

there is better stuff , but not this cheap

i've been buying bales of hay from the local farm for years now. i have never had any problems with it at all. my uncle and my brother have the same too. at £5.00 a bale it helps keep the price of keeping so many animals down.

I am back on wilkinsons meadow hay , #2.20 for 1.5kg and it smells gorgeous the few batches I just bought anyway
