So i decided to start a thread about hay XD as we know hay is SUPERRR important in a piggies diet. So i thought id go ahead and make a post thay you can share what hay you use for your pigs and why you/your pigs like it. Just to help any new piggie owners or any guinea pig owner out there XD (Please no arguments, just peoples opinions)
So, ill go first...
First of all i used the pets at home hay but after 2 bags having huge thorns in which was dangerous to the pigs and definitely the gerbils as they are so small and then another bag which had what looked like a squish mouse head ;( so i decided to go ahead and get different hay.
Now i have the Pure Pastures hay. I LOVEEE this hay. It is wonderful! Its soo green and smells super fresh. Plus is local, cheap for the quality and comes in fairly big, super compressed, dust extracted bag. And lastly the Guineas love this hay so much too XD
Hope this thread goes down well :D

Our boys are fussy. We change round hay a lot but favourites include the Burgess hays - forage, dandelion & marigold but particularly the chamomile one. We also use hays from Just for Pets, one is chamomile and rosehip and the other mint and something else. We also have timothy and green oat hay as well. I sometimes mix two bags together, they get bored easily so we do a lot of swapping types :)

My smokey has:
Dandelion and marigold herbage
P&h hay (for his toilet ing area)
Oxbow Timothy hay
Oxbow oat hay
Oxbow meadow grass/hay (can't remember the exact wording)
(Mixture of the above 3 oxbow....his fave is the Timothy tho which mummy is allergic to lol) x

Wowie, that is a big mix ;D Aw they sound like they are very particular, aha. id really like to try the Burgess and just for pets ones, they sound really good and nutritious ;Dxxx

I get my hay from A22 pet store, their a locally run pet store off the A22 road in East Sussex, they don't sell lives animals just products and hay n beddings.

The reason i get it from here is they do a huge bale of meadow hay (15kg i think) and it's so green and fresh, it smells amazing. It's from the local farmers and it's rarely got any dust which surprised me, sometimes there's a little at the end of the bale but i think that's where i bash the bag about getting on and off the top of my wardrobe...

The piggies adore it from any other hay I've bought.

Also the staff are lovely the guy always insists on bringing it to my car even though i tell him i gonna carry it up my stays and lift it onto the wardrobe (he gives me a horrified look XD) and the woman always ask me how the piggies are... and they'll deliver to you for a £1!

Hahah, yaaay :') Ah still being in school sucks :') i only get to buy them stuff on my birthday, christmas and the odd little occasion XD x

Mine have meadow hay, Oxbow Orchard Grass, Alfalfa King Timothy Hay, Burns Green Oat Hay and Vitakraft Vitaverde rose hay. Their favourite is the orchard grass and the timothy hay though it does depend on the harvest.

at the moment they're having hay for pets meadow and timothy+rye, and also deans farm meadow. other hays i buy for them are hay for pets ings, deans farm timothy, and oxbow western timothy :)

eta: and sometimes the willow warren timothy hay aswell.
