I've got 4 new boys from pets at home (I had to get them, sorry but my cousin wanted them to feed to snakes:o)
What hay is best for them for bedding and is that the make they will eat too? How much hay is too much?
Thanks!

be careful of shop bought hays, esp those from P@H - alot of people including me have had problems with their hay, and my piggies form lice from this.

I only have www.dustfreehay.co.uk - people say its expensive but i dont think it is for my two piggies - i get the 5 pack soft hay and it lasts me for months and its got such a lovely smell and piggies love it - ive never had my piggies get lice from this either.

for bedding i use profleece, which is fantastic and piggies again love it!

its just common sense how much you give them - give them enough to eat in summer, in winter give them more to eat and for them to bury in and hide too.

Thanks. By the way I don't agree with them outside (Personally) so they will be indoors at all times apart from playing, :(|)
Is Ecopet okay as bedding?
Would gerty guinea pig be ok? Offtopic, but dont want to make too many threads!

i dont have my pigs outsdie, they are indoor piggies and thats how i like it! i used to have them outside but you get more interaction with them inside!

i dont use Gerty, its promotes selective feeding and cant get all their nutrients from ti as they pick what they like to eat. I use supa excel pellets. go to food section and at the top are stickies on pet food and reviews.

i dont know what ecopet is, it must be like carefresh, which is what i line my hi bac litter tray on top of newspaper and then cover over with hay. it absorbs the wee, its really good!

It's not no, it's actually horse bedding. Just cardboard squares, dust free.

It's apparently suitable for guinea pigs. No reason why it wouldn't be.
Oh no, I hate Carefresh!
I was told that the food is fine along with fruit. Right now they have some cucumber, apple, and carrot.x)

hmm i disagree with gerty, i used to use it, i changed and now my pigs coats are far better, they generally all over healthier.

ooo where do you get that from out of interest? yes that should be fine.

so does it do the same job as carefresh but is it cheaper then? thanks for this!

Yes the same amount that the bag of BedXCel holds works out cheaper than that amount of Carefresh.-c

how do you get it, the only stockist in south england is miles and miles away from me!

Ecopet is really just the same and you can order that online http://www.ecopet.co.uk/
It might be expensive for delivery costs, but if you order enough (I can't remember how much) to fill the whole lorry then it lasts you a while and even though it might not seem it, works out cheaper by a lot than buying a bag every so often.

how about the other stuff> only thing is i dont have room for storage so dont think it would work! thanks though, i shall look into it!

You can only buy it from certain places I think.... there might be some people that could sell it for you if you join a rat forum such as http://www.fancy-rats.co.uk/community , I'm not a member but I know somebody sold some bags a while back. You don't need to be a rat lover really, a lot of them own guinea pigs too.... sorry that might not be much help!@)

I use the same stuff but from a different company, I'm luckly though as i just live 5 miles along the road from them so just pick it up. I really like it a big bag lasts me months for 4 pigs. Its really good as the wet goes to the bottom and absorbs up from there, leaving the top nice and dry i get mine from here
http://www.walmsleypremierbed.co.uk/ There supply a number of shops that are listed on the sit, dont know if they would deliver to your door, could ask them. :))

Mine get a massive bag from my local pet shop for £3 and it is long hay not the short cut stuff. I once ran out and had to go to P@H for some hay and it cost me £3 for a bag 1/4 of the size and it was mostly dust...
Mine love tunneling in the hay and short cut hay just doesnt "cut" it...:))
