As some of you may have been following my other threads, you will know that two of my girls were diagnosed last Saturday as having cystitis/ 'water' infections after losing a fair amount of weight.

Here are the 2 threads:

Basically I've just weighed the girls again and they appear to have lost some weight again after having gained weight midway through the course of baytril.

These are the weight fluctuations over the past few weeks for Ruby and Esme:

Ruby:
12/06- 1100g
17/06- 1136g
23/06- 1032g This was what prompted me to go to the vets. At the vets she weighed about 1108g.
26/06- 1147g. This was the third day of the 5 day baytril course.
28/06- 1115g

Esme:
12/06-1200g
17/06-1231g
23/06-1133g Again this was the weight loss that caused me to go to the vets.
26/06-1180g
28/06-1141g

I'm aware that baytril can affect the gut and can cause weight loss.
The baytril is now finished, and although the girls have both been eating really well and haven't had any symptoms like diarrhoea they have lost a little bit of weight.
Is 30-40 grams a normal weight over a couple of days?

They are both booked in for a bladder scan next saturday to rule out any sludge/stones, I'm going to monitor them for the next week or so to ensure they are not losing any further weight.

The difference between a full and empty bladder can be as much as 30 - 40g, so i really wouldn't worry, keep monitoring them daily for now and only be concerned if you see a sudden big loss or a consistent loss. x

Thank you :) I did think that it was a normal fluctuation- but I'm getting a bit paranoid that I will miss something. The joys of owning piggies :)

I think for any piggy that 30-40 grams is quite normal, and it's more of a worry when it's as high as 100 grams or anything like that (:
Best thing you can do is what you plan on doing, just keep an eye on the weight, although it seems to have returned to normal.

Were all paranoid and never stop worrying, i would be concerned if you weren't bothered. You just a good pet owner! x
