In the not too distant future we will be moving and my piggies will be housed in a garage (no car). The garage has been insulated apart from the roof which we will get done. They will have permanent access to a run out of their hutch. The run will be on a concrete floor. I need to put something on the floor. I had thought of an off cut of lino or some of that wipeable tablecloth you can get from The Range and then an old mattress topper on the top. I can't afford a piece of fleece as big as I would need. What is the best thing to put straight on top of the concrete floor?

Lucky piggies! We have thick lino on our kitchen floor and it is very durable and insulates from the cold concrete reasonably well so I'd go for that. Also it's easier to fix in place and more durable than the plastic tablecloths. What does everyone else think?

Aw you must me excited :) when I had piggies living in a free range shed, I covered the floor with a lino offcut followed by newspaper (although you could use puppy pads) followed by hay although they may not need the hay. Would that be an option? The only problem with having them walk on just lino / waterproof table cloth is that the pee would just sit on top and the piggies would walk all in it

Thanks @Hils I'm really looking forward to them not being outside anymore and me not having to guess the weather in the winter for the best clean out day.

I'd put an old mattress protector on the top and change it regularly.

I would use some thin wood tops or packaging sheets. until something else comes along. .perhaps at a store for unwanted packaging etc.
Just a idea lass.
A wood/carpenter workshop generally pay to have shavings and tons wood to be removed

Will it be ok on a very hot summers day? I'm just thinking, a garage door gets really hot in the sun and acts like an oven maybe?

The window in the garage is north facing and the piggies will be quite close to the window which is at the other end to the garage door.

If you want fleece on top, which would be good for wicking their wees away to the under layer, there are ways to get it cheap. Often the Range or B&M etc. reduce the price of older patterns. I have also picked up some really good fleeces from charity shops, which only need a quick wash to remove any fabric conditioner, instead of the usual 3 or 4 washes that new fleece needs.

In the shed I've got a bottom of lino, then a deep litter system of auboise on top.

Good luck with the house move.

If you are looking for cheap fleece IKEA do a grey fleece throw VITMOSSA (120 X 160cm) for £1.50. I have had mine for over a year and they wick well after a couple of washes.

Any kind of marine plywood sheeting would do a good job, it’s weatherproof so won’t rot, then newspaper or large throw or flat sheet?
Will it be open topped? Just watch out for kitties, we have a kit that loves our garage and can jump through our garage window, you may need a bit of cage netting over?

Sounds like they will be getting more space to roam around, like an entire garage.
Good luck with the move.

They won't be getting the entire garage they will be getting around 16sq ft of roaming space + the hutch which is 12sq ft bottom level and 12 sq ft top level. I know any levels shouldn't be counted but my lot use both levels all the time since I put carpet on the ramp. Not sure when we will be moving. Hopefully not too long. We are moving into my MIL's house once she has found somewhere to live. We won't be living there permanently though for another year as my son has to finish at College before he wanders off into the exciting world of University. I just want to get everything sorted in my head about what I am going to do as I am very much a planner.
