I have a sow that is in need of a companion and I've heard that getting a neutered boar as a companion is the easiest to bond and care for? Can someone explain and confirm this for me? Thanks. I am hoping to adopt a male neutered boar..

If you can find a neutered boar, that's wonderful. If you plan to get a boar and do the neuter when you get him, bear in mind they need to be separated at least 6 weeks before putting them together so as not to risk a pregnancy. Personally, I've always had pairs of sows and they have been fine together. Due to different ages, we've had to pair up girls a few times and have never had a pair that didn't take (I did try to get a meek pig when I knew I had a queen bee at home, but other than that 'dating' isn't an option where I live so we had to hope for the best and, knock on wood, have never had a pair of girls that weren't happy to have each other rather than being alone.)

I don't think the sex of her companion is as important as the personalities involved.
If at all possible could you take her along to a rescue and let her pick her companion?
Some rescues do offer 'dating' for single piggies, so that might be a possibility.
If not then there is no reason another sow wouldn't work, as overall neutered boars can be pretty rare.

As you already have a sow I would say that there is little difference between a neutered boar and another sow so far as bonding is concerned. Bear in mind a boar isn't always 'top pig' my Mr Smoochy is below Biscuit in the pecking order, she is a very confident sow. To be honest as much as I absolutely adore my three girls I don't think I will ever be without a neutered boar companion for them as my neutered boars have just been soooo :love::love::love::love::love::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool::drool:.
Dozy my avatar would snuggle in and sigh when I was upset as if to say 'its ok mummy, I'll just give you a cuddle (we had quite a few cuddle and cry sessions after he was diagnosed with cancer'. Mr Smoochy Bear loves a cuddle under my chin.
