So my little Graham (9 months old) Had his first trip to the vets nearly 3 weeks ago as I was concerned about his new head shake and bar biting. Vet initially thought he had an ear infection but this was dismissed when looking into his ears. Nothing to indicate an infection. Despite not being able to see anything, she put it down to ear mites and guessedbthat his new bar biting habit was potentially down to him beong irritated by the ear mites. He has had drops in his ears each week for 3 weeks. Tomorrow will be his third lot of drops.

The head shaking has not stopped and the bar biting has continued. I would have thought that it would've settled by now?

I'm back at the vets tomorrow with him. I will be explaining that things have not improved.

Has anyone ever experienced something similar?

Just before this began the only thing we changed was the hay (still using same bag). It is still Timothy hay but has added carrot and apple (purchased from pets at home) which we thought he would like. Could it be the hay? Possibly clutching at straws here (no pun intended!) Just want our little Graham well.

Thanks in advance for any help/advice.

Were the drops for possible ear mites? Does he have a head tilt at all? I would have thought infection too, it is possible that it is an inner ear infection so the vet wouldn't be able to see it. You could ask for a course of antibiotics. He would also need probiotics an hour or so after each dose but you can but them online or in Pets at Home if needed.

As for the hay it is not something I have heard of but never say never. See what the vet says. Does he live on his own?

Yes it is ear drops for possible ear mites. No noticeable head tilt. I will ask about whether it could be an inner ear infection. The vet did say if it continued she would do a further investigation.

Hopefully we'll make some progress very soon!

I'm there with him this afternoon so I'll let you all know. Been looking on Google and the research is worrying :-( keen to get this sorted.
