So, basically, my pig named Tigger has recently lost her BFF called Cookie. I think it was age, but they were the same age. Which has got me worrying. Will Cookie die soon? Or even though they are the same age, can some last longer? Even though they did everything together, ate the same things, drank the same water. Shared the same cage... Shared EVERYTHING, this has me worrying, because I recently bought a guinea pig called Oreo to try to cheer her up. But if she won't last, I will be in a guinea pig cycle.

Edit: Tigger seems to be more quiet and less active these days. I don't know if she's dying or just grieving. However, today, when I introduced Oreo and Tigger to each other, Tigger seemed to do everything she did with Cookie, just follow her around, copying her. But I am still not satisfied until you awesome people give me information.

Thank you in advance.

Extra edit: I really do hope that she is just grieving and will get better ASAP.

Sorry to hear of your loss.

You did the right thing in getting another companion for Cookie. Guinea-pigs are social animals and should therefore live in pairs. It may take a couple of days for the piggies to bond and establish a hierarchy but that is normal.

I'm sure cookie will be fine, providing she's still eating and drinking

Tigger is the survivor by the way. And thank you for your response.

I once had a pair of Guinea Pigs - Rosie and Nibbles! I was a much less experienced owner back then, I was only around age 12. Anyway, Nibbles died at the age of 6, but Rosie went on to live to the ripe old age of 9, until we had to put her to sleep when she began shutting down. Anyway, Rosie was moved into a smaller cage in the living room and she loved it! She always was very loving and social towards us, not to mention loving being in front of the TV!

You’ve done a brilliant job getting a companion right away! She’s probably just grieving at the moment, but with the little one around I’m sure Tigger will start perking up soon :)

So sorry for your loss!
