somebody left me a reply to my posts about my guinea pig putting on weight and she suggested metatone

What is that ?

It boosts their appetite... i've taken this from a previous thread when Lucinda asked about the quantities etc.... Mary replied with the following:


0.5ml per day for one week,then 0.3mls per day for the second week.
 
Metadone is a tonic I think. I believe it is a prescription drug and so you must get it from the vet.

Have you found a good vet near you yet?
 
Metatone is actually for human use, it is a tonic and I think you can get it over the counter. :)
 
Thanks S&T I didn't know that. Is it actually the metadone they give heroine addicts do you know? Just curious now.

mollymillymaisy from reading your other thread I would not give it to you piggy unless you have seen a vet. If you pig is loosing weight she needs to see a vet as it could be serious.

Yes you can buy it from the chemist or even the supermarkets stock it too.

I took it myself for a while, but it tastes absolutely foul! :o The piggies seem to love the taste though! In fact i've had piggies refuse to let go of the syringe! ;D It really seems to be a great pick me up for piggies!

I went to the chemist and they had it there. Yes it is a tonic and it says (for use after illnesssuch as colds and flu and when you are feeling tired and run down) i got it anyway but i wont use it untill i see a vet.
