Well really as title says, what is the best YouTube Channel to watch about Guinea Pigs.

Didn't realise there was so many people making channels about Guinea Pigs, have watched quite a few videos from various channels and was wondering if people on here watched these channels and had a favourite channel they watched the most.

I am aware that people will have different views as to what they feel is the best channel to watch, so please be kind if someone says they love a channel that you don't like.

I have been watching a lot of "Squeak Dreams" and the Green print one that has a website to go along with the videos, (sorry name escapes me and my pc skills aren't god enough to go and look for name without loosing this thread)

Am interested to know if you watch videos or post videos on YouTube and which ones you think are the best to watch

I generally don’t watch YouTube channels for a number of reasons. Partly it’s because when I did actively look I saw poor husbandry or practices that we wouldn’t endorse (piggies with cats or dogs or in remote control vehicles, being fed inappropriate foods), piggies doing tricks or piggies generally being used to perpetuate the myth that piggies are easy to handle pets who will sit on your lap and watch tv. A large number of these result in piggies being rejected for not conforming with people think is the norm. I’ve lost count of the number of “my piggies hate me” or “my piggies won’t bond with me” messages we have seen on here and this translates through to requests to surrender to rescue from people whose piggies don’t do or react in the way they have seen in videos.

Sorry if that sounds negative. I’m sure there are some reasonable ones out there. It’s just we see the sharp end on here and in rescue as a result of mismanaged expectation

I wonder if there might be appetite/an audience for the forum to do some stuff on YouTube or wherever? We've certainly got a lot of info we can share and no end of cute piggies to participate (in appropriate ways of course). It would be nice to add a sensible voice to the ones perpetuating myths.

Having said that I certainly don't have the skillset to do this myself :)) 😅

My views are the same as Vicki’s for the same reasons. Rarely do they show the realities of piggy keeping.

Squeak Dreams uses the forum, her advise runs along the same lines, a lady with bags of common sense, her piggies are gorgeous.

Los Angles Guinea Pig Rescue, Scotty's Animals and Cavy Central Guinea Pig Rescue. I name these with the caution that a few practises on these channels would not be approved here. They are in different countries where over the counter meds are easily available and treatment of animals not so closely governed. Some of the things they do would be illegal here. On the whole these 3 give good advise and are entertaining. Watch with an open mind and if in doubt check the forum. Never home treat, always consult a vet for correct diagnosis and treatment.

You can tell we don't have TV! I only watch for entertainment not for how to or medical advice, I always come to the forum or a vet for that.

It would be nice but it would be a lot more work in finding trusted members to make the videos and more admin to monitor and safety shoot the account etc. It also takes quite some work to build up a new channel against some established tough competition. We have considered it more than once over the years but the practicalities have usually just not worked out with running both the forum and a youtube channel.

We have some helpful videos and video links included in our guides.

Since we are all doing this for free in our free time, in reality just keeping the forum going not rarely means that our piggy cuddles or an early night get the short thrift yet again when dealing with an emergency in a thread or behind the scenes... Keeping a place friendly with as little waves as possible is a whole lot more work than you would imagine.
