What is the black stuff on my male guineas back

I have had my guineas for for years now but I still do not know what the gunk is that keeps appearing around my piggy’s bottom. Can anyone tell me what it is and does it need to be cleaned off?

It's likely to be it's grease gland. If you Google it to see if it's in the same place on your piggy.

I know it’s possible to clean it, some piggies have more active grease glands than others
If it’s where the guinea pigs tail would be (if they had one) it’s almost definitely the grease gland!

Our Lady Piggle has a yucky grease gland, she was very annoyed at having a bum bath today when she only had one last weekend but I spotted a fly landing on her rear end yesterday so she got another good wash today just to be on the safe side!
