My guinea pig, Elphie has a small black lump on her back/side, which kinda looks like a dark mole. It was checked by the vet, who said it was nothing to worry about (although if it were to grow, she'd need it checked again), but I was just wondering what it is?

It's very small, like a mole, and slighlyt raised. She doesn't like me touching it (I tried to see if it was soft or hard) but I don't know if that's because it's sore, or she's just being her usual funny self (she hates brushing, nail clipping etc).

Any ideas?

Most likely it is a sebaceaous cyst, but it could be another kind of cyst. Good that you had it checked.

Just googled - ouch, looks painful! Thankfully, Elphie's doesn't look anything like that, I guess many of those are infected/much larger.

Good to know what it is! Thanks :)

I was thinking sebaceous cyst too. My Katie has one on her bum and we have been advised to leave it for now.
