This is a spot on my silkie's back currently. It is not raised. It's definitely indented. There's some hair loss around the area. It feels really smooth but I've avoided touching it more than once because I'm totally stumped on what it is. I don't think it's been there for more than a week because I give her hair trims frequently and didn't see it last week.

I'm in the United States and the nearest exotics vet is very, very far from me so I would like to try to get some suggestions tonight before I end up driving hours away. If that's what has to be done, it will be done, but I really would like some idea on what this is in the meantime if anyone has a clue.

However, there is a regular vet near me who has given treatment based on my recommendations for quite a while. I've had guinea pigs for years and this is the first time I've seen something like this.

Do any of you recognize this so that I can try to get some medication for it or is this as stumping as I think it is? And is there anything that I can treat this with in the meantime that won't hurt if it happens to be something other than suspected?

It could be an abscess however only a vet can tell.
It’s impossible to say just by looking at a picture.
If your nearby vet has treated your piggies before then go there first and what they say.
Let us know what the outcome is.

It looks like a scab of some sort to me, but it is of course impossible to tell what is beneath and what has caused it. Please see a vet if it is getting bigger or if it comes off.

Where on the body is the scab? If it is in the middle of the back, you may be dealing with mange mites, but please do not medicate on spec on just a guess.
