My pigs have had this before (when they were young) - it's basically nuggets and bits of hay mixed together - mine loved it. Because it contains alfalfa i wouldn't feed it to any of my lot now (as they are all over 1yr old now) - good little food for growing piggies (my sow enjoyed this when she was pregnant)

Woodlands Guinea Pig Food and Forage is split into three tasty parts:

The Nugget - this contains all the essential vitamins and minerals that made a tasty balanced meal.

The Hay and Marigold - helps maintain dental health and the digestive system whilst encouraging natural instincts to rummage and chew.

Alfalfa - is rich in essential fibres which provide energy and improve the functionality of the gut and is great for overall health.

ok thank you, so if i bought this would i need to buy hay too? sorry its all veeeery new lol

Yes you would.

If you were looking for an all in one product, there is a newish product on the market by Excel called all in one cubes (or something). You get four large cubes in a packet for about £7.50-8. You can buy this as an all in one, but check out the threads on here first, as the prevailing view seems to be

it's expensive
it gets eaten very quickly compared to the manufacturers claims of one per 48 hours per piggie
it doesn't seem to have enough hay in it for messing about in, nesting in and just having fun in
there are other concerns as well

I personally think it's great as a treat, but will continue to buy the excel blackcurrent and oregano nuggets, plus lots of hay. I prefer the long stemmed grass hay which piggies can pull out of hay racks, nest in etc etc, as this seems to have less waste than the chopped stuff. It also seems to have less dust than the chopped stuff. However, I'd try different types and come to your own conclusions.

thanks katie i've been looking at them cubes too..
should i just stick to nuggets and hay for the time being as they'll be real young?

i'm going for the woodlands link and timothy hay as they only babies, and then next week i'll order the excel one (as worried if i order now it'll not get here in time if needed)

what you'll say lol ?

where are you getting your pigs from? If from a rescue, have you asked what branded nuggets they are currently being fed (although i think most rescues use burgess nuggets)

Hay wise - Timothy hay is best - however you can mix it up with some other hay types for variety. :)

hi sodapops she uses own brands of muesli..

i'm trying to find alfalfa, but no luck so far

In that case you'll want to wean them off that food very slowly - so you'll have to ask whoever you are getting them off if they can provide you with a few weeks worth of their normal food.

When i transferred two of my boys from a muesli type food i put their normal handful of muesli food in their bowl, but sprinkled a few nuggets over the top. Every few days i would increase the amount of nuggets i added till eventually (after about 3-4wks) they were on a nugget only diet.

Do you know what hay they are on also? It might be worth just following what they are already used to for a little while - introducing new food very slowly (including veg)

One of my girls had persistent diarrhea for the first 8wks we had her - i think this was down to diet (the person we had her off gave me no supply of her normal food and told me very little about her health) - giving her a handful of the naturals apple & carrot timothy hay sparked loose poops - so you need to be very careful in pigs so young
