What kind of grass to grow for guinea pigs

I am a new pig owner and I was thinking about growing my own grass for my 2 piggies and I wanted to see which types are the best for them. I found Timothy grass but I kind of wanted a variety. I just wanted to see if anyone had any suggestions!

I think any is pretty much okay. If you do a search you'll find a thread (or more) with suggestions. I planted some but don't remember what type it was.

More than likely red fescue or Rye grass

I grow and feed rye grass. Basicly just normal lawn grass but I don't use any fertiliser other than Guinea pig poos mixed with water and sprayed on, now and then

Thank you. I actually have a bag of lawn seed left over from when I seeded my yard and it is a mix of rye bluegrass and red fescue. Is there any grasses that you are aware of that are a no no for them? I know they can’t have alfalfa. Thank you so much!

I don't know any that they can't have to be honest. Just alfalfa I know of which isn't a grass I believe anyway.

I actually thought about just buying a thing of timothy grass seed to throw in I gave them fresh grass for the first time and they loved it so I thought I would my own in the summer while it’s nice out! I have had a hard time finding hay that isn’t half dust. I just got my boys in March and this forum has been so helpful as a new owner!

Can you add your location to your profile please as it can help us tailor our advice based on your location. If you are in the Uk then we may be able to help with an alternative hay source. Haybox.club, for example, is fantastic quality dust free hay which you can get on subscription and if you are in the uk, then I would highly recommend it

I absolutely will. Unfortunately I am in the US so I am not sure that I have access to that but the quality of hay I have tried is horrible half of it is dust. I got lucky this summer and my dad has a field behind his home that has acres of ryegrass that both of my boys love. I also planted a forage mixture for my boys in pots for late summer when everything starts to dry out!

From my experience Oxbow is pretty good. I've heard mixed positive reviews from Small Pet Select, too.
