Whether you rehomed, brought from petshop, or were given your piggies, why did you choose them?
What qualities did they/do they have that made you just have to take them home?
Were they gorgeous looking or did they seem to have a cheeky personality? :smitten:
Did you plan to get him/her?

Pretty much all of mine have 'fallen in my lap' ;D

Chucky was a rescue that ended up staying here as Andy fell in love with because of her short face and apparently shes 'spanish looking' ? ::) ;D
Harry was chosen because he was the biggest by far, with a cheeky little face and we wanted a longhaired piggy!
Pretz and beaver came in together a bit thin with mites, but fine apart from that, they were both so small, and I absolutly adore pretz, so she stayed here along with her sister! The others just made their way here ;D ;D

i chose bob as i thought he was such a handsome piggy, and watching him in a pen with the other piggies, he stood out the most, with his unique character. i would say hes less cheeky, and more proud lol. he thinks of himself as something of a daddy pig, but hes such a wimp really, which makes me laugh :D

i chose munchie cos at the time, he was such a small piggie for his age, hes always been a bit on the smaller side, and he just looked so cute, with gorgeous spikey fur. plus he was very vocal lol running around the pen making himself heard lol.

i loved both of their characters, plus they are just gorgeous and i fell in love with both of them straight away :D

My first piggy, Reggie, I got when I left my last job which was in a nursery. They had bought him to put in with the other boar and what happened? They fought of course! There was no taking it easy and letting them get to know each other slowly just, WHAM, straight in the cage together so it became a hassle having to clean out two cages and they couldn't be bothered with him so I said I would take him. My other piggy, Gus, I got to keep Reggie company. I made the mistake of getting him from P@H. I chose him because of his colour, cream, white and what i call rat coloured! I also picked him because he looked totally terrified and was being picked on so I wanted to get him out of there. So thats how I got my piggies!

Lennie was in a box in a girls bedroom where I went to pick up something from freecycle. I could hardly see the box as it had clothes and stuff thrown on top. I asked the girls mother what was in it and she said "oh just a guinea pig, my daughter never bothers with it"
I felt sorry for him and she asked if I wanted it and I said yes....I confess I didnt even know what a piggie looked like, so when I got him home, I frantically searched for info on the net. I was scared to look in the box at first but when I did, there was just wet urine soaked newspaper and half a mouldy white cabbage. My heart melted and from there, I just fell in love with him....the rest is history ;D

My OH chose Timmy as a friend for Lennie because he wheeked the loudest out of his brothers >:D

and Teddy and Larry were 2 brothers who a breeder didnt want to separate as they had always been together :)
I have not gone on looks or personality, they just came to me :smitten: :smitten:

Jessie was a birthday present but i loved her instantly :smitten: Petal was so cute when we saw her we had o take herfor a fiend for Jessie and she's a lovely, noisey and cheeky piggie compared to the quiet Jessie ;D

I chose Brandy because she has such beautiful fur (Abyssinian, ginger, brown and white and rosettes all over her bum!). Nutmeg was chosen because she was the last one at the farm, and looked too cute to leave behind. As for Sevi, she's black all over with one ginger patch, and I chose her because she was so lively in the shop. That was nearly 4 years ago now and she's quietening down in her old age, but she still has a wonderful personality.

Thats awful, how could an adult leave a dependant animal like that? Good on you for saving him.

We chose Blaze and Scampy from a rescue, as we thought black and white were lovely and they looked very similar (father and son) they had been turned in with a pregnant sow (Blaze's missus and Scampy's mum) and we thought it may be harder for the rescue to rehome older piggies. They were our first and second and both as bold as brass!

Dylan was our third, mainly black with a white nose blaze, an RSPCA rescue who'd had a stroke and hubbie Martin just fell for when we visited the centre.

And Pepe we found with Kate / Starshine through this forum. He's a lovely buff self chunky chap who adores his dry food!

:smitten:

Ok - this will be a long list with all of my lot!

Fraggle - I felt sorry for him as he had been at the rescue in Scotland I visit 3 times in a row when I was up their visiting so on the 3rd time I bought him home!

Ernie - came to me as a foster from another rescue who was full to bursting but I fell in love with his funny face so I kept him!

Rory - was part of a huge rescue of pigs that Ernie was fostered out to make space for but he was a pest so I bought him home to give everyone a break from him!

Treacle - a foster who stayed as she was extremely ill when she came in and after spending so long nursing her I couldn't part with her.

Daisybelle - from the same place as Rory. She was being a pest and fighting with all the other girls and I just fell in love with her sad face in a cage all by herself so she came home with me.

Tootsie - A wonderful gift. I lost a very special pig around the time that a friend of mine had a pregnant pig - she promised me that if there was a black rex I could have it and what was born - 3 lilacs and one black rex! She is one of the best presents I have ever ever had from a very special friend indeed.

Honey - I felt sorry for her all tiny and by herself so under the influence of a naughty lady I bought her home with me!

Iggle - Another foster that was too poorly to leave. He was extremely ill when he first arrived but is now doing well. He is brain damaged and has some lasting physical problems so he will stay with me for life.

Boo - Chosen as a friend for Iggle to try and help him learn some more normal behaviour!

Roo - my pig in a million! He chose me and I had no choice but to rescue him and bring him away from a very bad situation.

Possum and Flo - Golden Oldie girls who I thought deserved a peaceful retirement. Not really sure if they get that here but they are blossoming anyway.

Chester - Tootsies brother! The best present ever as he is my special baby.

Whinnie - I followed Whinnies battle with mycosis while she was being wonderfully cared for by a fabulous rescue in Scotland. When I needed a friend for one of my girls I was offered Whinnie and I couldn't say anything other than yes!

Wilson - adopted to live with Whinnie. I fell for his sad face on GPRH and that was that!

Anise - I have always, always wanted a black piggie so when I saw this golden oldie advertised for rehoming on a rabbit forum I knew she had to be mine!

Betty - part of a very big rescue of pigs I was recently involved in. She was very ill so I decided to keep her here but thankfully she is now well on the mend.

Oscar - chose me! Was bought home to me by my ex years and years ago because someone was going to let him go in the garden for being ugly. He has been with me through thick and thin and I love him to pieces.

Bob - came to me for rehoming from another rescue but he has a chronic abscess problem so he has become a permanent resident.

I think thats everyone.......

Well I didn't pick Herbie he seemed to pick me lol.

As most people on here know I found him in my parents back garden, and I am so glad I did cause I love him to pieces.

I felt sorry for mine so brought them home.Theres nothing better than gaining the trust of a rescued piggy.

I feel that with all of mine it was a mutual choosing - me and them :smitten:

well, we got ours june 2nd last year, me and my two girls picked a guinea pig each, we wanted 3 sows, I chose Daisy cause I love black and white guinea pigs (she sadly died at 6 months), Keira chose Toffee as she liked her gingery brown colouring, and Hallie who was 5 then chose Star as he had really badly chewed ears, and although they had healed up she didn't want him to get chewed by the others again. Star actually turned out to be a boar and we had him neutered. He's the one in my id photo.

I decided that I wanted a guinea pig around four years ago and went out on a mission to find one.
We ended up at a local pet shop, a little independant shop.
I looked into this little enclosure and saw this pink eyed white piggy.
He was in this little enclosure with about four biggish rabbits, he was actually barbering one of them lol
I couldnt leave him there to live with rabbits.
The man in the shop said that he had been there for eight weeks and so he was already around four months old.
I had a little cuddle of him and fell in love with him and now he is my wonderful boy that I love so very very very much.
My other piggy, Gin, was one of a litter of four piggies that were born here.
Her brother went to a lovely family and she and her two sisters went to live with my sister next door to me.
She was a bit bossy with her sisters and they werent too happy with her, so I tried her with Charcoal and they got on famously, so theyve stayed together and now theyre my only two piggies.

Merlin was looking for a home as an only pig and thats exactly what i had to offer - when i first held him it was true love :smitten:

Rodney came to visit when his owner went on holiday, his owner became ill a couple of months later and she decided that he would be better off with us. We later found out that he had been living in a laundry basket for a year.
I adopted Violet when she was 7 weeks old she needed a home as her cage mate had died and the children had already lost interest in her.

Back in August my friend decided that she didn't want her pig anymore. She was in a really tiny cage. About 18inches by 18inches. No hay, no hidey house,Rarely let out.
I decided to take her then 2 months later I got her a friend. Her cage is much bigger now. Lives on Oxbow pellets, gets timothy hay, has a friend. I think I'm doing a good job.

I picked mine when i went to the pet shop and saw how scared they where, so home they came ;D Rustie my fave cow bag bite me so home she came ::)

my first girls who are 5 1/2 were my sister who lived with my other two now passed away she got bored and was going to sell them, so i bought them off her, dixie i thought was a bit ugly when i saw her very pointy nosed and skinny n decided nobody might find her cute so id take her lol she ended up being pregnant and that how meeka, shakey and duke came into my life then i saw lola in a garden centre and she just had the wow factor so i bought her!

btw i do think dixie is cute now lol she put on weight and filled out and got cute looking! shes got a lovely personality too, she was a mental lil when i first got her!

I got Tiger from a local pet shop (quite a good pet shop) - he was just a load of hair and a little face so home he came and is my little baby!
Jeremy was a rescue piggy - after reading about piggies when we got Tiger, I thought it would be nice to adopt an unwanted piggy, so we looked for a while and found Jeremy at Guineas for Life - I liked his pictures as he looked so cheeky, and fell in love with him when we brought him home and he hid his face in my jacket! He has turned into a confident chubster piggy who loves eating and exploring - a real character!

After a few years with out piggies in our lives my son wanted a pet he was then nearly 4. He had been scared of animals untill there was a visit to nursery from a farm park. They brought lots of little animals and he loved them. Mitchell asked he he could have a rabbit or guinea pig :) at the time although I loved piggies I did not want the work Alex was a small baby at the time and felt I just did not have the energy. Mitchell was always asking and never gave up asking ::) Then Alex hated animals just like Mitchell did so as much as I wanted the lovely piggies I waited. Then I met a friend who owned a rabbit slowly Alex liked Diesel (the rabbit). Then while Alex was at nursery another farm park visit of small furries came after that some three years after Mitchells nursery visit. Yes you guessed it Alex was now asking for a guinea pig and Mitchell had never stopped asking. So the old hutch that was sat in the garden got a revamp ;D and the search was on.
The local rescue did not have any in and there were no adverts in the paper selling any at the time :'( I did not want to buy from a pet shop. But felt pressure from the boys for some much wanted piggies. So rather than travel further afield to another rescue because Mitchell get very travel sick I went to the farm park.
We picked Hamish because she was so pretty and had a crest I never owned one before that and Bumble because I had never owned a silver agouti.
Rimmer was brought much later the story behind him now. I talked an online friend into getting piggies as they wanted pets. When she got hers I fell in love with Rimmers mum and decided my next piggie would be a cream piggie. Kay my online friend was offered another sow which was going to be turned over to a rescue so she took in the other sow which turned out to be a boar. Hence Rimmer was born I saw his picture and just had to have him he came all the way to Nottingham from Kent.

We got ours from a rescue centre, but I had seen pictures of our pair on their website before we went, so knew i was going to love them!

I loved them cos they've got such unusual coats. Teabag is tan and brown, but its all mottled and merged. Maxi is black and white and mottled the same! Very hard to describe...

Teabag has the cutest button squishy nose too! :smitten: :smitten: :smitten:

Mine have come to me in various ways - rescues, brought, presents from wonderful friends. Love them all and whilst my numbers went from just 4 to double figures fairly quick, I wouldn't be without any of them and would love to have more :)

I got mine because I'd always had pets and when I moved into my own flat with my bf I missed having a pet in the house. As we only lived a flat and weren't really meant to have pets we were very limited.

I chose guinea pigs though as read a lot about them and I liked the fact they make little noises and are active during the day, as had a hamster before and didn't like it that they were always asleep during the day.

the first piggy i ever owned was severely brain damaged and was recommended that i put him to sleep but my heart melted and i nursed him for 6 months then my next piggy iowa i went into a pet shop for "supplies" and saw him bossing evryone around and pushing his way to the front of the cage and i truly believe he chose me.
dallas i rescued as nobody wanted him as he's all the one colour he was handed in to a rescue because the child that had him thought his colour was boring and last but not least i fostered Gideon and by the time it came to rehome him i was smitten and kept him so thats my story

Poppy (now at the bridge) and Bella - our first pigs from P@H. I fell in love with them instantly, they were babies and I was worried for them being in the pen with the rabbits. They kept trying to climb on top of each other to hide. I thought Poppy was adorable, so tiny and i'd never actually seen a pig with a "bald spot" before (which I soon learnt was called a crest not bald spot!). Bella looked so fluffy and adorable, soon realised she was fluffy as she was going to grow into a beautiful long haired piggy. When my boyfriend saw the price of them I think he was a bit shocked (as was I at the time, as another pet shop was selling pigs a lot cheaper) but he then saw my face and realised there was no way we were leaving without them!

Holly - we got from Kate at Cornflower Cavies. I had seen a photo of her before we went to meet her, although the photo did not do her justice. I was stunned at how pretty she really was fell straight in love with her too. She has tiny doll like features, so delicate.

My dearly departed Max :'( - from RSPCA Medway. I chose Max as looking on guineapigrehome a colleague at work said she "didn't like the look of him". This worked for me as I couldn't stop thinking what if everyone else thought like that, he'll never get a home. To be fair I don't think it was the most flattering photo, once I saw him and his shiny chocolate brown coat I could see what a gorgeous piggy he really was.

Toby - RSPCA Medway. Our first Himi, we nearly got him the first time we were at Medway but ended up bringing Max home. After that I could not stop thinking about Toby and the fact that Amanda at RSPCA had mentioned he had almost been rehomed, but then the person who was interested took babies instead, also she said the red eyes sometimes put people off. I couldn't leave him in the rescue with those sort of things up against him and as soon as I got him I fell in love with his cheeky piggy lips......and I got over my own red eye phobia, hehe!

ahem I'm abit ashamed to admit this but my Neighbours Guinea Pig had babies and i went to veiw them because I'm nosey like that lol i had no intention on getting any as ive had a bad experence with guinea Pigs in the past being both pigs dying under aneasthetic :'( their were 4 babies 2 black and white, one tri colorerd and a Ginger and White one they were all Abyssians (sp) i went home and couldnt get the Ginger and white Guinea out of my head his cheeky little face just made my heart melt and i knew i had to have him so the next day i went back and got him my neighbour wouldnt let him go on his own though so i took a black and white one as well but sadly they both started fighting after about a week (i think its because i picked the 2 big piggies so they both wanted to be boss) and i dont regret getting them one bit i cant imagine life with out my little Joey :smitten: i want to get him a girlfriend though but id have to get him neutered which I'm scared of after loosing 2 pigs already under aneasthetic :'( :(

ha ha mine is a bit mean

I dreaaaaaamed of having a really long haired guinea pig and a really short haired one. I went to go pick them out only to find the lond haired ones have already been bought so the breeder shows me the ones for sale and i feel mean now because it was like picking the second best ones from the ones i originally wanted. but i must admit i was nieve and wouldn't trade my two piggies for the world

i got both my piggies from a country farm park. fell in love with them all but was only allowed to have 2,, marc would go spare if i got more.
